Dining out with children in London - acceptable?

I had heard that dining out in restaurants in UK/London with younger children isn't viewed as very socially acceptable - is that the case?

It depends where you go - this certainly used to be the case say 10-20 years ago but thankfully there has been a strong movement to change this. One of the very best restaurants in the world, never mind London, La Trompette in Chiswick, often has children eating there (although this is invariably for the earlier sittings rather than at 9-10pm).

There was an article recently in Restaurater magazine in the UK where several top restuarateurs were interviewed and asked about their attitudes to children in the restaurant.

In general I would suggest phoning and asking. If you are lucky enough to be staying in a posh hotel, ask the concierge, he will certainly know. In general, mid-range italian and chinese restaurants will always be child friendly.

Depends on where you go if you eat in a Harvester and seated before 630 in the week and 5 on sat they do a third off and is child friendly.

Honestly, if I were you, I'd be more concerned with affordability than acceptability. Start saving. London is EXPENSIVE!
