Why do people say things like this? What is the purpose? Is it the chant of some ritual?

It IS a ritual. That is how rituals work. You chant a God's name dance maybe make music slaughter a cow(or human) drink blood(or wine), eat flesh(or bread).
Most of my rituals contain only paint, art, altered states of consciousness and laughter (but I'm planning one where I will use the Christian drinking blood and eating flesh thing, vampires always intrigued me)

Why do people praise a simple celebrity? If people in the world praise people who will one day die so we can praise the one who will never die but will live forever. God created the earth, the sky, and everything so we as christians can say "praise the lord". Do you have a problem with that?

God is our Creator, Jesus is our saviour. They hold the fate of mankind in their hands. Would you say, To hell with God? To hell with Jesus? I think not, not if you know what's good for you. Praising god is a requirement administered by God. It is his will and it is not for us to question anything he does or says. Blind faith is a hard thing to grasp but God will bless the man that believes and requires no evidence of God's being. A praised God is a happy God. It's far from ritualistic. There is no routine. We do not need to meet one day a week in a church as one body to praise God. You can do it by yourself, where you want, when you want. You don't need to read a prayer. Say what's in your heart. No two prayers are alike when it comes from your heart. It is unique and original in which God flourishes. Sing a song of your own making praising God. God loves that too. Jesus saved us from our sins. Died on the cross he did. We owe him big time. Even though I am aware of all these things, I regret that my faith is really lacking and I really gotta work on that. But anyway, food for thought. Peace.
