My Fiance has a 1991 Ford Escort. She was driving and the speedometer went to 0 and there is now a buzzing sound. It is the gauge or the wire that has gone bad? Or is it something else?

Probably the speedometer cable came lose from the speedometer. The buzzing noise is most likely the little gear at the end of the cable rubbing since it's no longer connected. Without the tension of the cable moving the needle forward to the speed it has fallen to zero. You might be able to reconnect it, if not, I've had a 91 Escort, I got rid of it years ago. It's a good car, but after 15 years, stuff like this starts to happen.

i guess the cable has broken, if its buzzing thats good coz it means the drive in the gear box still working ,not too big a job to fix.

They are driven by a cable that spins. Looks like it broke.
