If not taxman can call you to submit your bank accounts as is maintained in many banks for the financial year on which tax will be calculated. So taxman preserves right to see what is in your bank account for calculation of business position or to ascertain your earnings. Taxman is specially enthrusted with this job to check your bank account.

You've asked the question in UK taxes so I assume you refer to the self-assessment returns. Now that gives you your answer. You self assess, so you obviously need to include details of all taxable income and bank interest is one of these.

Sure, HMRC get this information direct from the banks but that is for the purpose of checking you have included everything in your return.

They do not have access to other entries in your bank account until they open an enquiry and then they can ask you for the relevant statements.

This information is entered into a computer system at IRS HQ.

yes definitely if you are audited. I don't think they check unless you are audited.
