Live on a budget too! I cook home cooked meals such as cottage pie, spagetti bolognaise, stews, pies etc, all of which can be frozen and I usually get 4 meals out of each. It always works out cheaper that way for me.

Take a look at the schwartz and colman's packets in your supermarket (the thing like shepherd pie and chilli powder stuff)

They do some really good pasta sauces and are only about £1 or something. Much cheaper than buying a jar of expensive pasta sauce. You might need to buy a cheap tin of chopped tomatoes for it. And pasta costs about £1.

The taste really good and are far cheaper than most meals.

Pasta and Olive oil, or butter and a few herbs, is quite tastey.

Or Fry an Onion and some Garlic in butter, You now have the basis for a multitude of meals.....

Option one Add Water and an oxo cube = Onion soup, You can put grated chesse over the top and grill it.

option two, fry your onions and garlic, and add tomatoes = your basic italian sauce.

Option three Option two, plus curry powder = Curry sauce.

Or Get some pasta shells, Mix with Tuna, Apple Onion Peppers and any other Slad ingredients you may have and add a cople of spoons of mayonaise Herbs and spices.= Pasta Salad

Also Bubble and squeek, Toad in the hole, sre sll cheap and cheerful meals.

Try making bake potatoes in the microwave.... Prick the spuds with a fork and nuke em until they get soft, cut in half and mash in butter......

For cheap meat, check the local park for Ducks and wood pigeon, Also squirrel is quite a niece meat, and there are some recipes for hedgehog

One way to eat cheaply is to bulk cook items and freeze them down in portion size. It may cost more in one intial cost but over all its cheaper. Do enough different dishes over time and you can just cook a bulk item once a week but still have a different dish every day from the freezer. I did this a few years ago and my food bill went down to £10 a week, which is pretty cheap for anyone and i had meat every nite and good portions.

Cheap Meal Ideas For a College Student
A good one for freezing.

You will need:
2 Chicken breasts
2 Sweet Potatoes
1 Butternut squash
1 can of chick peas
2 Onions
Soy Sauce (light or dark)
Garlic
Chilli
(Pak choi if wanted)
Rice

Instructions

Make a marinade with the soy, garlic and chilli, use the quantities of your preference.
Add the finely chopped onions, diced chicken and diced butternut squah to the marinade and leave for 1hr
After marinade is completed fry in a wok with a touch of oil untill chicken is fully cooked.
Cover the ingredients in boiling water and add diced sweet potatoes and chickpeas. Add a lid if you have one and bring down to simmer.
Leave untill the vegetables are cooked.
Cook rice.
Add pakchoi to the dish 30 seconds before serving.
This dish usually tastes better the longer the flavours have to infuse so leave as long as you like and top with water as needed. i usually cook mine for an hour.
I know this seems like a lot of work but it doesn't need watching and students have a lot of free time. it also makes loads and can easily feed one person for at least 4 meals

PASTA!!!
You can do it all sorts of ways;
.) Slice a clove of garlic and fry it in olive oil then stir the cooked pasta in.
.) Heat a bit of tomato puree, maybe add some herbs or cheese or sliced ham, then stir the pasta in.
.) dice some bacon, fry it, add some sliced garlic, stir in the pasta, then remove it from the heat and pour a beaten egg over it.
There is just so much you can do with pasta, it is a marvellous low budget food!

carbonara!

Its basically-

One egg
1 tablespoon of milk - single cream can also be used (per egg)
chopped bacon (any amount you want)
pasta
Grated cheese (to your taste but i would reccomend about 50g's)

put the pasta on to cook
whilst thats cooking put the egg and milk in a bowl and stir gently just to break up yolks and whites, add cheese.
fry the bacon
when the pasta and bacon are done, drain the pasta (thouroughly) and add the contents of the bowl and bacon together and stir.
season with pepper and salt and a magic ingredient called MAGGIE (sauce)

There are many versions of this, but this is the best student one! Its quick and simple, and can be done cheapish but you can normally make it a few times as the quantities of food you need will make a few dishes!

have fun!
