walking home in a bad area of the city and 2 thugs choked you and punch you to rob you, would you defend yourself and take the risk of being stabbed or killed or would you submit?

Submission is NOT an option. Part of any training program is learning to be aware of ones surroundings, understanding where a person could be...and knowing how to observe the surroundings and what to look for with regard to the possibility of attack. After a time it becomes reflex and you don't even have to think aout it anymore...2 people with knives, are not a threat to anyone with even a little "real" training.

Don't forget that even by submitting you are not guaranteed survival...most criminals now are willing to kill over even just a few dollars. No witnesses...

There are only 2 ways to leave such a confrontation...victorious or dead....personally I go for victorious...treat every confrontation like your life depends on it because whether you know it or not...it already does...

OK, first off, I would NOT be walking home in a bad area of the city. Martial Arts teaches self awareness, and how NOT to get into a fight and that is pretty much rule #1.
Second, again with the self awareness, I would not allow someone to get into a position to choke me. If, for some reason, I was in a bad part of town, I would NOT let anyone close enough to me to choke me. Punching is different- I know I can block and clean them out quickly enough- but choking means I have let them get WAY too close to me.
The question is, basically, what happens if you get attacked by 2 guys. If they are openly showing a gun, I give them whatever they want- there is absolutely NOTHING I have that is worth taking that risk unless I think they are going to shoot me anyway. If I think they ARE going to shoot me anyway, then I have nothing to lose by fighting back. IF one or both of them have a knife, it's a REALLY tough call because I have a great deal of knife fighting training. Even then, I probably give them the wallet, just because it's still FAR too risky to fight 2 armed men.
HOWEVER, if they are just coming at me with their hands, they are in serious trouble. Since there is more than one guy, I would have to take out one of them as absolutely blazing fast as I could. Something guaranteed to end his threat completely while I dealt with the second one. This means I would crush his knee or throat, gouge his eyes....something so that he was no longer able to hurt me in any way while I was concentrating on the other.
The whole thought here should be that they are not just telling you to give them your wallet. The situation you are discribing is that they are outright attacking you. In this case you MUST defend yourself and defend yourself with absolutely everything you have because who knows what they are planning. They MIGHT just tale your wallet, but they might also drag you away into an alley and proceed to beat you, rape you (it happens to men also) maybe even kidnap you and torture you to death over several weeks. Yes, these types of things DO happen, and even if they are simply after your money, you simply cannot just be a victim. You cannot just stand by and be a "non factor" in your own life.
Hope this helps...

If I am already being choked and robbed then I would react. IF they were threateining too and had not touched me yet then I would submit first. Once contact is made I Have no choice but to fight back or die, IF they have a gun in apparent site and out of distance or in no safe way of defending against I would submit to the beating until I found the right time and chance to break away for a safe run for it, or until they had enough and left.

THE BADDEST of us, would know enough not to walk alone down a bad area of the city at night, without help, weapons or something, so if they are in that situation they are probably not too wise to begin with if they are out looking for trouble, they will find it and get their asses handed to them.

No One style is better than another, it comes down to you and your condifidence to defend yourself. If you think you might lose you probably will. If you think I will win, you will increase your odds of success by winning the all so important mental control of yourself in such a situation that you do not flip out and give into untrained instinct which will probably just get you killed for trying. Only keeping your wits during a beating can you ever discover a way out of a beating.

Did you just ask me what I would do if attacked by two robbers? Who are currently choking me and punching me? Who the hell is going to sit there and take it? What kind of a question is this?

Thats like asking... so there is a train coming at you, do you get off the tracks? Or submit to the train and die for no reason. Give me a break.

well being a real ma and having real life experience(which most ppl who answer obviously dont)i would have to weigh the situation up at the time.for a start they wouldn't have got close enough to be able to choke or punch me as i would have been aware of the fact i was in a bad area etc.i would also consider is it worth hurting anyone over, what have i got?my 50 cent bus fare give it to them if it's going to avoid the situation.a good ma should be able to read the situation and the ppl involved it's not just about punching, kicking etc.if you read the situation and decide they are going to assault you anyway then you do your utmost to maim or kill them you dont pussyfoot around or you'll be the one maimed or killed.as i said the situation has to be weighed up at the time.

Depending on where you study, many schools of martial arts (especially self defence classes) train for these situations. The training however has no concern for their wellbeing, only your survival, so the moves can be quite effective in crippling or injuring your attackers to get you time to remove yourself from the situation. More advanced classes also train weapons dissarmerment.

I would defend myself.

pull out knife, cut the first one, then square off, with knife against second one.

If they were resorting to punching, and choking, chances are they aren't armed, and if they are, they don't have it out.

chances are the second one will run.

I would then call the cops, when the cops got there, put knife on ground, stand on it. tell them simple basics.

"I was attacked" "I defended myself", I would like to give a statement but I'm too shook up right now. Say nothing specific.

half of any weapon involves dealing with the legal issues too.

dude, fight back!
you think someones whos being mugged is just gonna sit back and look pretty and tell the rest to kill him?
you fight back, roundkick to the head, poke eyes, bite fingers, kick privates, anything you can think of.
when you have a rush of adrennalyn going through you, you are going to fught back, you pretty much have no chioce. as a martial artist, it is hard to accept disrespect without fighting it. also, scream. scream loud, like a little girl. dont be embarrassed. the noise will make them think twice about what they are doing and if someone heard you. hang on to thier legs, make it hard for tn\hem to move, and flip em on the groung and give em a taste of groundfightin'!

Okay. If you're outnumbered and they have weapons the best thing to do is always going to be to submit. If you are forced to fight though, don't be afraid to fight a lil dirty. Remember, there are no rules when it comes to survival! Go for the eyes, private parts, cup your hands and clap them over the attackers ears, the throat and use your knees! Most people don't expect a knee to the gut.

The fight might not happen in the first place. Many skilled martial artists put out a vibe of confidence and alertness. If the thugs sense it, they'll go find a weaker victim.
