This is part of the lyrics to a song I was taught in sunday school a thousand years ago (well it seems that way to me). The title of this short song is A Sunbeam a sunbeam. I believe it refers to shining the light of Jesus out into the world and into our souls so we can better feel his love for us.

Sunbeams are a preschool missionary group. Since Jesus is the
light of the world and as Christians we are to live like him to shine like a sunbeam.

A sunbeam is a ray of light. A ray of light shines light and hope on the world. In other words, it means Jesus wants you to be a beacon of hope and an inspiration to others through Him.

Jesus wants us to know that when we are His, redeemed by His blood, we are His candles / lights.

Someone else just had a dream of a big door that the Lord wanted him to open and enter. It was a door of Truth. You need to desire to know what is behind it. He entered and there was a small light in a huge dark room. He heard Jesus Words and the light got brighter. He got closer to the light and realized the candle glowed & the light burned. The Lord told him, he was that candle. When he heard the Word and desired more, the candle got brighter and soon one could see treasures in the room. Etc.

After I read that story, the Lord showed me the door and I saw the small dim light. I Got closser, and the candle became me. So, I am the Lords candle also.

So the Sons beam may still be the Lords Candle.

Here are the lyrics to a primary song:

Jesus wants me for a sunbeam, to shine for Him each day.

Basically means to be like Him.

I prefer the song by the Vaselines "Jesus DON'T want me for a sunbeam".

In the past hymns weren't aimed at a sophisticated audience and a simple, sentimental phrase like that was intended to appeal to the less well educated classes.

Jesus is the light of the world and we should be spreading the light to all, thus the analogy of being a SON-BEAM.
