I will be attending a holiday party in a few weeks at a friends home. I was wondering if anyone could suggest any unique items that I may bring as a way to say thank you for inviting me. I know wine is customary, but i'm pretty sure that a) they already have wine in their fridge and b) people will be bringing wine to the party...so any other ideas...unusual or creative will be bonus points....thanks! PS-websites will also be helpful!

a small potted plant is always a great hostess gift - it doesn't require her to scramble to find a vase, and it will look lovely long after the party's over.

If they have a particular hobby, you can always build a present around that. For example, if they like movies, you can put together a small gift basket with a video, popcorn, and book of movie trivia. If they have a pet, fill up a gift bag with toys and treats for the pet, and an amusing little book on crazy cats or dopey dogs.

why not try bringing a few disposable cameras and pass them out so that the host/hostess can see their party from the guests point of view. Attach a little caption to the cameras saying something like "see a moment snap a picture then pass on this camera." You could gift wrap a photo album to go with it so when the photos are developed they already have the album to put them in.

An after party pampering basket....
after all the hardwork you host did for the party, give semi personlized gift basket filled things like foot soaks, slippers, and gift card for free pedicure from the local spa. This help them unwind and relax the next day, and would truly appreciate your gift.
