Atheism is the religion of the nonbeliever. I have no objection to the nonbelievers but I do not wish to have a proselytizer at my door or on this forum. Do you get me? I have no clue why atheists hang around the religion and spirituality section. It doesn't make sense unless you like being an oxymoron, which is probably more about getting attention and shocking people than it is about offering another perspective or gathering information. "

No, atheism is not a religion. And this atheist is here to gather information, and to keep misinformation about atheists from being spread as truth.

No, it is not a religion. The word atheism only means that you don't believe in God. Religions contain specific ideas for example about morals, about the way to practice the religion, about events that happened in the past and they mostly have some scripture on which they are based. As an atheist I do have morals and and I do have my knowledge and thinking about what happened in the past, but it is not covered by the word "atheism" and it is not all common among all atheists. A nihilist (someone who doesn't believe in any values) could be a perfect atheist, but I am definitely not a nihilist. I also don't have any central book that I follow, there is no "Bible of atheism" and I have not even read any specific book about atheism.
So as an atheist I am really a person without any religion, and my moral convictions do align to a large part with what different religions teach, my convictions about facts about what happened in the past, origin of humanity and other things is based on science and historic documentation, and I can't say how many books and people have influenced my thoughts about all kinds of things but they are a lot.

I just saw the details you added. Why are you so rude? Yeah there are many atheists here who are rude, but I never "preach atheism" to anyone, actually I don't even go the R&S section specifically but I check all questions of "Society and Culture" and I just explain my views when I think I have something to say to a question, I do not say everyone should become an atheist.

The word religion comes from the Latin word that means to regulate or control. Atheists don't want to be controlled of control others, so Atheism is not a religion. It is a state of mind where everything becomes clear and the truth becomes apparent. We shall know the truth and the truth will set us free, from religion.

Sometimes. Nonbeliever isn't really completely accurate, but it is close enough.

Not all non-believers are atheists. An atheist like me believes that there is no god. There is a pretty big spectrum of beliefs that would consider themselves non-believers.

No, as Atheism is not a religion. Next time as a question. Putting a question mark at the end doesn't make that a question.

No. Atheism is the abscence of religion. Religion is based upon faith. For me, I simply know there is no god. There is no additional need to hold that in some abstract subjective form.

No it is not religion because it has no dogma and does not require faith. The true atheist basis his belief that there is no God on the lack of evidence for God's existence. and the abundant evidence for a scientific explanation of the universe.

Religion implies a somewhat common belief set in one or more deities. Atheism has only one common belief and that is that there is not a deity or deities.

No, it's not.

It has no dogma or doctrrine.

It is not in and of itself a systematic spiritual discipline. It is not a belief, it's a lack of belief.

As to why atheists are here:
