What is going to happen when your children find out what a big fat liar you are? Will they ever be able to trust you again after being lied to for all those years that you insisted that Santa was real?

Msandra, the difference is that God and Jesus ARE real and they are SUPPOSED to be the reason Christmas is celebrated (Note that Christ's name is right there in CHRISTmas) so rather than fabricating a story about a fat man in a red suit who does nothing better than to hand out materail posessions, why not tell them a TRUE story about a living Savior who gave His life to provide us with eternal salvation?

LOL no I'm 24 I have known for a long time that Santa isn't real. I just don't think that Santa brings enough to the table, so to speak, to try to convince children that he's real.

Rachara, I AM in the Christmas spirit!

But it's CHRISTtmas, not "Santamas" that we're celebrating, so why not let kids celebrate the birth of Christ instead of lying to them that some fat guy in a red suit is going to give them material posessions if they're "good little boys" or "good little girls"?

Wow, talk about dumb!! For one, I have never seen anyone ticked off because they found out Santa was not real, it makes children have the opportunity to be children you idiot! That's like calling out all of the Disney movies, when you are a child, you're imagination runs wild and you believe a lot of things are real, that's what leads to wonderful excitement in a childs life, it's not our fault you are miserable "BA HUMBUG" person! Why don't you go scrooge yourself somewhere else?!! And even though I believe in Jesus Christ, that story is no different than any others, YOU YOURSELF, NOR ANYONE ELSE has seen him in real life, NO ONE has seen the actually first written pages of Him, for all you know this could have been a story made up by governments to keep people in line by telling them that if they are bad little boys are girls, they are going into an eternal vat of fire!! YOU, NOR NO ONE ELSE, knows the truth behind anything, you are a human, no higher than anyone else! Therefore, NOT EVEN YOU, know if there is even a GOD or JESUS CHRIST, you just BELIEVE there is, and a belief is one thing, a fact is another, and there ARE NO facts to his exsistence, ONL:Y stories that people have passed down to generation to generation, for all you know the Greeks could have been the right ones and instead of Jesus Christ and 1 God, there are many, Pluto, Zeus, Hades, etc.!! Who are you to tell anyone they are wrong?? Answer me this!

The whole world lies to our children enough! You can tell them about santa, because santa is fun and festive. Also be honest. I told my children WHY we celebrate christmas. I wish santa did bring presents personally, I'd even go to bed early,LOL. If you are not honest, they willl have to belive in rudolph, frosty and jack frost. Not to mention, the easter bunny, the tooth fairy, The leprechaun man and every sports team's mascot! As parent, we should want to be a constant source of truth and reality. It is okay to talk about santa and stuff, as long as the child knows they are FAIRY TALES! A lie is a lie. No matter the reason or season. If you want truthful kids, be a prime example!

Well I covered my self on that one, I tell my children that Santa is real as long as you belive in him, When you stop beliving then he is no longer real to you.

And you know what Children need a little fun some times I was not upset or thought I was being lied to when my parents told me he was not real. It is just a part of growing up. I think you need to grow up. Let kids be kids and don't take the magic away from them.

I have two children 4 and 2 years old and in my house we celebrate the birth of jesus christ but we also tell them that santa brings gifts to celebrate the birth of jesus along with the three wise men. we also celebrate three kings day. three kings day signifies the three wise men who followed the star in the sky telling them where jesus was. the kids go outside the night before and gather grass and sticks they then put this in a shoe box and place it under their beds(this is to help the wise men feed the camels) then when they wake up in the morning they look under their beds and find the shoe boxes empty and a present.

As I am Catholic I am sure you will tune this out.

SAINT Nicholas(Greek: Νικόλαος, Nicholas, Nike+Laós, "Victory of the people") is the common name for Saint Nicholas of Myra, who had a reputation for secret gift-giving, but is now commonly identified with Santa Claus, Father Christmas or in The Netherlands and northern Belgium as Sint-Nicolaas or Sinterklaas. He lived in 4th century Myra in the Byzantine Empire's Lycia, the modern day Demre in the Antalya province of Turkey. This is as much as is generally known about him in the West.

This historical character was the inspiration for a mythical figure known as Sankt Nikolaus in Germany and Sinterklaas in the Netherlands and Flanders, which in turn was the inspiration for Santa Claus. Sinterklaas (a contracted form of Sint Nicolaas) is a major celebration in the Netherlands and in Flanders (see below). Among Orthodox Christians, the historical Saint Nicholas is remembered and revered. Saint Nicholas is the patron saint of sailors, merchants, archers, children, and students in Greece, Russia and Serbia. He is also the patron saint of Barranquilla (Colombia), Bari (Italy) Amsterdam (Netherlands), and of Beit Jala in the West Bank of Palestine.

Hmmmm.... And all of those countries house a majority of GASP! Christians!
We honor SAINT Nicholas tomorrow at the feast of St. Nick. Now, do I worship him instead of God or Jesus no. But he was a good man, a saint who left the world a better place and touched the lives of many children. I lived a hellish childhood and Santa as one of those fond memories that I can recall and look upon with awe.

Their was a real Santa Clause also.. Did you guys not learn this in school? His name was ST Nicholas and no he didnt run around in a sled with reindeer but he took gifts to kids that lived in his area and all he would put is santa clause. So in a scence both traditions are being carried on!!
Good luck

Kids on the whole do not think like that. Who says we insist? We play along but we don't insist. Some of us love to see the magic in our children's lives and once they grow out of it,,they do realize it was a childhood game. Most kids have fond memories of childhood based on santa.

Coming from someone who was once a kid (what?!) nothing much will happen. I can't ever remember believing in him... the whole Santa thing was nothing more than a game between parent and child. If your child is scarred for life after finding out the 'big' secret, you've probably done something even worse to make him so emotionally unstable in the first place.

I and most everyone I know was told about Santa when we were kids & none of us have issues with our parents about it. I don't think most people consider telling their kids about Santa to be a "lie" in the traditional sense of the word.
