Do you think many people depend on having a wedding ceremony to prove they love eachother? I mean, I think some people reply on that piece of paper too much, and some people are so anxious. If you love someone, you could be with them forever and not get married, at least the tradition way. If you promise someone yourself forever, and you know they mean well, doesn't that count? What do you think?

I don't think a wedding or getting married proves you love each other. It is to show tour spouse and everyone you know that you want to spend the rest of your life with this person.

It all depends on who you are, but some people are more comfortable with just being together and not getting married. Just do whatever makes you happy.

Promising yourself to someone forever does not count when it comes to the US court system. I do think many rush into marraige too soon, but you are not protected should anything happen (death, divorce, even severe illness) without a "traditional" marraige. There does not have to be a ceremony, but that "piece of paper" is worth its weight in gold if the time comes and you need it!

You do have it right. Yes being married is a big thing but it's also to show to they world that they are in love and it doesn't matter how knows it. But also for the church and being married in the eyes of God and the whole church ordeal or what marriage is and not to sin. But what you feel counts most. Me personally i got married to prove to my self others and family the love i have to day is going to last a life time and on that day i wanted to have the nervousness and emotions of how life sneaks up on one but you'd never turn back.

It's a very personal decision, I do believe that people can have a life long commitment without marriage. However, it is also lovely to make such a commitment, and have the documentation to prove that legally. Many people find themselves in trouble if they do not marry, if their partner dies they may not be entitled to anything if their partners will does not direct their lawyer in that way. I have known people to lose everything in this situation

From one crazy libra to another, I don't NEED a piece of paper to prove that I am commited to a person. What I want to do is stand up in front of everyone I know and scream from the rooftops what a wonderful man my fiancee is and then I want to celebrate with everyone that I know that he thinks the same thing.

For my husband and I "our" wedding was more for our families...we had been together three years and knew the only thing that was going to change was my last name but our families(parents) wanted us to be married before we had our kids. so we did. I could have not gotten married at all and been with him forever adn raised our kids but i am Catholic and that's looked down on...like everything else so we got married..I agree with you though...if it's not "important" don't get married, stay together.

it depends on who you are and what you believe in. either way to me, you can show commitment. i think alot of it as to do with if you're religious or your dream of having a wedding a certain way.
