is it the promise that when you die you will spend eternity in Heaven....or that you will never be alone here on Earth with the promise of blessings and prosperity.

I ask because I see so many people condemning people to hell if they don't believe. However, I don't see the logic in that to convert people. Noone can prove what happens after you die ...so wouldn't the greater draw be for a better life on Earth?

If you don't believe ...I know your answer is neither but just answer it as a hypothetical question.

I can't answer for other Christians but I can answer for myself. For me it's that special feeling I get while in church praising and worshiping God. I was an alcoholic over 5 years ago. I could never get out of alcohol what I get in church.
It's a personal relationship with God.

When I was young I always knew in my heart there was a God. I heard this scripture, "God created the heavens and the earth." I found a Bible in a hotel room and read it from cover to cover. The words of the Bible made so much sense, and I realized that I needed someone to help me, and come into my life and live through me. So, I asked Jesus to come and live in me, and be a part of me, and he did. I'm not saying things have been perfect, but I've known him for 29 1/2 years now, and I can honestly say it was the best choice and decision I have ever made. I now have 2 children and one grand-child, and I'm so glad that I gave them a foundation like this. My parents were atheists, and although they were nice people, I wish they would have given me the opportunity to go to church and study the Bible. Now that I'm older I am so glad that I had this chance in my life. Some people may say, well that is a crutch! Or, what if it isn't real? All I can say, if it isn't real at least I got to learn to be kind, and to do as much as I can for my fellow man, and treat others with respect, and give my kids some dignity. So at the end of the road, I didn't lose I won, because I turned out to have a very nice life with wonderful people, and had a chance to know what it is to try to do some good on this planet.

I'm not a believer, but I imagine that having a personal relationship with a loving God who is powerful enough to have created the whole magnificent, breathtaking universe yet still manages to have time to take a personal interest in your well-being would be a greater draw than even the promise of heaven.

It's not that I don't understand the draw. I just prefer reality, warts and all, to even the most beautiful and comforting fiction.

The Salvation Message of The True Christian Faith is not easy for most to accept. Espacialy when they learn how difficult a path the True Christian Walk is. The True Christian is called by God. There is the option to ignore God's call. No one is compeled to The Faith... It is not the promise of Heaven that is the Goal of The True Christian... but to go into all of what is involved would take much more space than is practical here.... The "Draw" of "religion" in general is personal satisfaction and fulfilment and "getting stuff" emmotional, spiritual, worldly... this is why so many get lured into the cults... That is not the "draw" of The True Christian Faith...in truth...Ido not think the "draw" for The True Christian can be expressed... only experienced... that is why it is so hard for so many to accept God's offer.... The rewards are personal to the individual and to each God gives differently... and after one accepts the need to come to God and actualy dose so... I have no way of telling you what God will do for you if you come to him as He proscribes........Proof? I can prove nothing to you. No one else of The Faith can prove it to you... the proof is between God and you.
If you have questions about the basics of The True Christian Faith you may email me.

Like any other religion, I think people just need something to believe in. When things go wrong, as they often do, it conforts us to believe that there will be some reward for us somewhere.

If you honestly study christianity, though, you will see that a better life here on earth is also promised. If only because we do reap what we saw. Life usually gives us back what we've invested.

For those who wait for the after life, they're just morally lazy and hope that their sins will be forgiven and all will be well without them having to do any work.

The real question pertain to "religion" should be who start the one that you are looking into.

I for one, searched these world religions out. I found the leader/founder to be quite remarkable, this would be the man Jesus.

After this, you have to ask yourself what was his claims. By reading the book of John you get a clear picture of His Mission, His Passion and His Teachings. From there you are left with either he is either 1) a Lair 2) a Lunitic 3) the Lord.

Does it have to be either/or? If so I would say "eternal life." It's been a human draw for such a long time.

Religion has a LOT going for it. I say this as an atheist. If I *could* believe I would get a lot! Eternal life, a best friend who always cared, a moral code, a plan for my life, an instant social network, and my family wouldn't be so confused/hurt by me.

Religion isn't for people who think too deeply. The attraction of eternal life as a reward for doing nothing and a saviour who atones for your sins is obvious. In reality it takes a lot more than unthinking religious faith to achieve spiritual enlightenment so Christians that are steeped in dogma are generally further from "God" than the average free thinking atheist.

Hypothetically speaking I would agree that the more reasonable answer is a better life on earth now, however, you don't need a religion as an excuse to treat people with respect, dignity, compassion and love. You can do that already - its the "humane" thing to do. That comes from just being human, not necessarily religious.

The draw is ignorance. People NEED an explanation for things they don't understand or don't want to beleive. So, they are willing to believe the most outrageous mythology to make them feel comfortable. People have always done it. Like in ancient times when people made up Gods to explain the weather, it was b/c they didn't understand how it works. Well, we still don't understand everything, so people are still believing in man made stories to explain things we don't understand. Also, it is what they are raised to belive, and it is very difficult to convince somebody that what they were taught their entire life by their parents and church are not true. Even if they might think it is not true, they don't want to admit it.
