There is a climate change going on. Arguing the cause won't change that fact. America's bread basket will be heading north into Canada by 2050. America's population is EXPLODING as is the national debt. Will this country be able to feed it's people over the next 100 years? China has addressed population explosion by inacting a 'one child' policy. What is being done to address this problem here?

Well, one idea would be a United States of North America. Admittedly, Canadians tend to be a bit standoffish -- I understand it's not so much being proud of being from Canada as it is proud of NOT being from the US -- but if we talked it out, I think Canada, the US and Mexico could be combined to form a very strong and capable country that would be able to feed its population and maybe a substantial portion of the rest of the world, in effect.

If we promote the concept of world trade and get the resources flowing around the world to wherever the market exists, we can handle quite a lot of population without having to resort to coercive measures.

I think people worldwide are recognizing that if we do not voluntarily use restraint, and at the very least make birth control available to everyone who wants it, then death control (war, famine, disease) will settle the issue for us.

From Canada:: what do you mean your bread basket will be heading here? That we'll be growing wheat to feed you from OUR bread basket?(which we now call "2 for 1" farms because the family farm is definitely on the decline in this country... who would want to? If they want to, can they afford to? Not generally without 'diversifying into cattle', etc., and then adding to global warming, etc. This is not, I'm afraid, the pristine North that you might think).

I'm not sure what you are doing to address the food security problem in the US for the next century.... I'll read the answers tht come in with interest.... but, please, don't encourage people to dip into our bread basket here, okay? heheh
