I agree with you 100%! My husband, my brother, my father and my male friends are all the same. And the worse part is, they complain. "My head hurts, my arm hurts, I can pee, my back"!!
If I offer to take them to the doctor, there response: "No, I will wait and see how long this last". This is all the time and from every man I know.
And this is what I believe why, (I am not saying I am right, but here goes.), they are chicken s*&t. They are afraid of the pain or embarassment during the exam. They simply can't handle the whole thing.
Women can take pain better then men, so we go....we say, to he with it and we go. We would rather have the few minutes of discomfort, pain and/or embarrassment to stay healthy and yes, thats why we live longer.
But wow, I was so happy to read this question because it is so TRUE.

Fear. Men are way more afraid to have a problem with their "member" than anything else. They'd rather avoid it than face it. Also I think it depends on the way that man was raised. If he had a hothead for a father who never went when ill, chances are he won't either. Men are supposed to be made of steel or something. It's just part of the testosterone build up. I think the most effective way to get a man to go is to show how upset you are at the thought of losing him over something preventative. Show him that caring about you and loving you can come in the simple form of a Dr. appt.

Some men are just stubborn. I think men dont want to show weakness. They dont want to see if something could be wrong.
Also to check prostate, they have to stick their finger in you know where and alot of men have a phobia of something going in that part.
Women are so used to going to the doctor because if they dont they could have more serious consequences. Like they may not be able to have children if something serious happens.
I know Im a woman answering this question but I have asked men that myself. Its really an ego thing sometimes, and sometimes its because of the type of the examination is too invasive for them. They are not used to being poked and proded like women are.

Who the hell knows? Guess its related to the other following "diseases' of manhood;
1. I'm not drunk and I'm driving.
2. I don't need to ask for directions
3. Whatta ya mean 'put the lid down'?
Its a mystery of the universe my dear. But...i have news for you...I get a physical EVERY year without fail. I also let my wife drive IF SHE thinks I shouldn't. I not only put the seat down but the lid as well (A phobia of my mother's when I was a kid and after marrying a woman with 3 daughters a must!) .
However I still don't ask for directions. Why? Because (as I tell my wife) You're never really lost if you don't care where you are.

We don't stop for directions, we don't read the instructions, we don't talk about feelings, we don't like to shop, we hate to admit when somethings "wrong", and we don't go to the doctor unless we know something's wrong. It's just the rules. I'll get checked, but only about twice a decade.

I hear that. Fortunately, my BF has no problems going to the doc. My problem is trying to get him to eat more healthfully. I don't know how you get someone to do something they don't want to do, other than encourage them alot.
My mom had a bump on her shoulder for like a year and we kept trying to get her to the doc and she wouldn't go. I finally said, ok if you die from that, I'm not going to your funeral. She went. She had cancer that had grown very deep. Now she has a huge depression in her shoulder. It was harsh, but sometimes, you have to be cruel to be kind.

my man says it's cause he is afraid of finding something wrong. A lot of guys like to push their problems away and pretend they don't exist. I've tried explaining that some things can be fixed if only caught early, but alas they are stubborn breed too.
The only thing I've found that works is to just bring him there.

Because men don't want to feel weak, and for most of them, going to the doctor is a sign of weakness. Totally dumb reasoning, don't you agree? But this is the way they are.
