Yesterday, after biting into a piece of percimmon(for the first time) i got in maybe 2 chews and my mouth turned extremely dry and chalky, i had to spit it out. Am i the only one this happens to? I had a friend taste it and she said iy didnt do that to her, could i be allergic?

NO you are not allergic to them.. Percimmons are like that.. You have to eat only the extremely soft ripe fruits, almost to the point of 1 step away from rotton.. My grandmother has a percimmon tree on her farm.. I can remember eating them while little.. If you get them firm, they have some weird chemical that seems to dry you up like mace does.. Ever see the cartoons where the cat eats mace and his mouth shrinks up to nothing.. Thats what percimmons that are not ripe do... ...

rTiffany, I believe that should be "persimmon" and, if so, you bit into one that wasn't ripe. Did you mouth feel like it "shriveled" up like a prune and did you have a hard time talking?

I think you got an unripe one. A typical prank I pulled as a kid. Good luck. Pops

This happens to many people who eat persimmons the first time. If it happens the next time you eat it, I would get checked out, but it's probably nothing.

yes, you can be. if you are sensitive to some types of foods and if you have a family history of allergies
