They both offer you rewards if you are good. They both are watching you all the time, yet you never actually see either. They are both fed to children as truth from birth. The only difference it seems is that most everyone wakes up to the fact that Santa is not scooting down chimneys every Christmas, but not everyone stops believing in the Santa of souls?

The similarity isn't eerie. The irony is amusing.

Actually -- what's really, really amusing is how people change their convictions about Santa the moment you present an analogy like this, and they'll switch right back again if you ask why they teach their children that Santa is a real person...

You can't have it both ways, people. Either Santa is real or he's not. If he's not, why do you insist on going out of your way to make your child believe he is. If he is real, then this analogy DOES work. I know the cognitive dissonance must be a bit too much for you to handle at the moment. I'll give you some time to mull it over...

Other similarities between God and Santa:

They both can see into the souls of humans (or at least children, in the case of Santa).

They both allegedly reward the good and punish the wicked--apparently using their own judgment with no chance of appeal.

Both are called by many different names around the world.

Both have been portrayed as old, bearded men.

Both have had their very existence denied.

Both receive innumerable requests for things people think they need, most of which they don't.

Both can apparently circumvent the laws of physics at will.

Both employ humanoid, but not quite human, helpers.

I wrote a blog recently concerning a situation I observed at work with the Mall Santa that moved me to tears. I won't go into all of the details, but I was amazed by what I felt as the spirit of christmas and the actions of Pere' Noel (Father Christmas). I have a friend who is a Catholic Priest in training, and he read my blog, and said it sounded like I was talking about Jesus, not Santa. So yes, I see the similarity.

Yes, I think some one long ago, modelled santa from the returning King and Redeemer. In Rev., v 13 says, He was clothed in a robe, dipped in BLOOD, and His name is called The Word of God.
Santa wears crimson red robe and clothing.
Gods hair is white as wool.
Santa's hair is white as wool.
Gods throne is in the North sky.
Santa lives at the North Pole.
Plus all the traites attributted to God alone.
But Santa has the profile of a child molester.

Of course they are similar. Santa was originally St. Nicholas, and saints are at least in the presence of God, if not actually a part of him. Close enough for similarities to crop up, at least in relation to humans. Santa is sort of God for kids. God not frightening, but generous and kind. Father figure in the best sense.

You're right, the belief in either one is just plain blah. If people would explain the true origins of the world (evolution) then the kids would grow up to be smarter and less narrow-minded than people tend to be these days.
In fact, I don't know where all this came from. I never heard of god until I was 17 and had to swear in to the military. That's when I finally knew what it was... then I turned Pagan.

Good observation. My daughter was never lied to about Santa being real simply to instill a sense of trust in her parents when it came to discussions about God.

A child's belief in Santa is NOT harmless. Helping your child believe in the "spirit" of Christmas and not in a lie is important.

i dont see the similarity. God is known everywhere around the world. Santa is known only in America and the West

God is Real and Alive today
Santa is fictional and man's feeble attempt to get kids to behave

God is the creator of heaven and earth and all that is in it.
Santa .well he is a creation of some man..................

We see God at work in our lives everyday, Santa he materialises at Christmas.

Many agnostics and atheists when faced with death end up calling on the name of God, whom they had denied all alon..

The one book written about God, has outlived every book in existence and is the most widely available book in the whole wide world - The Bible. as for santa we dont even know him in India, Pakistan, Iraq, Africa........(need i go on)

Actually, no, not at all. I think that Santa and child molesters have a lot in common in the way they do things. God is sort of in a league of his own.

Don't forget that it's all a method of control. Just like when the church added Satan and hell to the bible in the second century AD to control the uneducated masses. Just think of the education level and gullibility of those that still believe in either.
