The US government initiated a blind study in the immediate post WW-II to determine genetic relationship between a child and the father listed on the birth certificate- and surprisingly 1 of 5 children could not be the offspring of the father listed. Shocking then, and the statistic holds true today. So who's says only men cheat?

Men get all the (bad) press, but women step out as well

Both cheat.
My mother always said "Its not just the men that fool around. They have to have someone to fool around with"

I think that the statistic holds true today because there are more women than men. If a guy makes his mind up to cheat, there are more women that he has an oportunity to service because of the 5 to 1 ratio of men to women.

If one cheating guy can convince five women to have relations, then the chance of a multitude of illegitimate children would be about the same.

Its human nature to want to procreate, but it takes a real person to abstain from doing what comes natural and do what is right.

This is more true than you would think. During the first Gulf War I was in charge of overseeing the family members of the soldier that went to war. To my horror approximately 70% of the spouses were at the clubs and running around on their husbands within a week of their departure. During the second Gulf War (being retired then) of the families I knew only about 30% of the spouses did the same but I knew alot less people then those I was overseeing when I was in the military.

Um, the US government couldn't have *possibly* initiated a study in the immediate post-WWII time period that had anything to do with genetics -- the ability to use genetics to determine parentage of a child has only been around for 20 years or so.

Wherever you got information from about this supposed study, it's patently false.
Have a reference?

Men and women cheat. I saw a girl on the Maury Povich show one time that had 2 guys that were the only ones that could be her baby's daddy and it was neither. Then they brought her back and there was one person who was dead and his parents hoped the child was his but - not! Then it ended up being like 6 guys and I don't think they ever found the right one. I think she might've known who it was and just didn't want it to be that person. It was absolutely sickening!

If that study is even real then it really shows the sexist nature of the government of that time. How do you suppose the statistic holds true today? You could not possibly have proof of that.

A doctor in a suburban hospital did the same study on his own from the mid 50's up through the 70's and discovered much the same thing.

I don't know about your little story, but women cheat just as often as men do. Men are more open about it because it's not considered such a bad thing to alot of men.

I have never heard that only men cheat, before DNA no one could tell the difference.

Well, if your spouse was gone for years and you needed an "itch" "scratched", what's the problem with that? I mean seriously, do you think those guys were loyal to their wife's back home? No, they were having sex with women on shore leave.

Never heard of this study, but seem fascinating. I would wonder if its true myself, since that a relatively high percentage of infidelity. Then again who knows...
