This is actually an important issue. People who believe in god with no proof can justify believing in anything. You see it all the time in YA. One person will say "I believe god had condemned you to hell for what you just wrote" and another will say "I believe god will forgive you if you live a good life". They are all just making things up to support their own beliefs, and using a made-up god to justify them.
The worst thing an aethiest can think is "well, everyone is entitled to their own beliefs". This is dangerous. Many muslims believe it is their mission to kill as many infidels as they can, and they have no fear of dying. In fact, it is often encouraged. What happens when they get ahold of WMDs? They won't be afraid of retaliation if they use them. In fact, they will probably welcome retaliation as they think they will go to heaven faster!
This is one example of a belief being dangerous. I think all belief in god is dangerous, and you should do everything you can to help people reject these destructive belief systems.
What can you do? It is going to take time. The hope is in young people, the next generation. Youth is rejecting the concept of god in droves, and that's a good thing. Whenever you hear someone speaking of god, just say "god is imaginary".
Be patient, it will take time but eventually, reason and logic will prevail.

Hmmmm - I think the more appropriate question is why are you obsessed with the bible-obsessed freaks that you want so very much to 'help'?
People will believe what they believe no matter what you or anyone else does. It doesn't matter if they are following the teachings of the Bible or if they are worshipping a three-headed toad named Henry, they have chosen what they feel is the truth.

What? Pull an intervention on a global scale?! You might be able to do it on a one-to-one basis but other than that, you're screwed, my friend.
As with all things in life, we choose what we want to see; what we want to bring into focus. This is a singular, individual process similar to a 10 month old baby trying to learn how to walk. You can have the baby grab your fingers as you guide them across the living-room floor, but eventually they must let go and walk on their own. This is a personal choice of the infant based on the experience and feel of walking with help, along with the desire to be independent. Without it, the baby will never walk.
Without the desire for independent, critical thinking - without the desire to learn and research - without the desire to create masterfully on their own - the brainwashed will never feel confident enough to step outside their comfort zone and try their metaphorical wings.
Yes. This is sad. But like the addict who refuses treatment, other than offering help, there's nothing that you can do.

Reality. With you? Ok. Wait until I am hurt and cold, maybe hungry....look at me while walking past, and say " Get A Job". Then keep going, grab a $6 coffee at a 'bucks and whistle a quaint little tune.

They are beyond redemption. Having made up their minds, they prefer to not be disturbed by anything as inconvenient as a fact. All that one can do is to continue pointing out the obvious, in the hope that someone who has not made up his mind may pay attention.
Postscript, for Ruby, who asks, How does it affect us? Answer: every day, in more ways than you can imagine. Consider the Dover School District case, for example.

I'm afraid you can't. If you are an Atheist like me, then you must realise that religion is not, in fact, based on any kind of logic. It is impossible to argue someone out of a position they never argued themselves into; rationality does not work against them, I'm afraid. Sorry. =(
