I'm having difficulty understanding why some people are offended by, uncomfortable with, or unwilling to accept "Happy Holidays" being displayed at stores or offices.

Because evidently some folks don't realize that there are several holidays of varying religions and cultures that are celebrated at this time of year, and think that THEIRS is the "only" one or the "most important" one...

People like Bill O'Reilly who start this kind of nonsense are sensationalists. It's just another tactic for them to grab attention during a time when attention is being drawn elsewhere. There is no "war on Christmas" as these people claim, but the sad part is that people fall for it anyway.

Happy holidays is the perfect greeting for December. There are 3 major groups who celebrate an important holiday in this time of the year, and to single one out is simply unfair. Happy Holidays is all inclusive it means "merry Christmas, happy Hanukkah, and happy quanza, and if you don't celebrate any of these then i hope you are enjoying your time off from work." It all fits into these 2 words, amazing!

The Christians of America believe that their religion is the only true religion, and they are offended by anyone who says anything to the contrary. Their scriptures also tell them to expect persecution for their beliefs. With these 2 elements in place it's easy to see why something like this might happen. Christians love to play the role of the persecuted minority as they strive (and often succeed) at being the vocal majority. It's simply intolerance of other worldviews which drives them to go off the deep end if you aren't constantly affirming their faith.

They just don't like Happy Holidays *to the exclusion* of saying Merry Christmas. The idea is that they're intentionally NOT saying Merry Christmas, because it offends people.

Personally, I think it's a load of crap. After all, should the Jewish community be offended that they're not saying Happy Ha-I'm not even going to bother trying to spell it, but you get the idea. Happy Holidays is a seasons greeting. Stores aren't trying to be religious people, they're trying to be AMERICAN. And December holidays are AMERICAN. So stop pouting about it. Sheesh!

It's because they only want their holiday to be recognized because they think their way is the only way.

If you read through alot of these questions and answers...it's really only christian folks that have the problem with this. They are the ones offended. No one else is whining about being told "Happy holidays"

Because some people feel, that in an effort to be fair to ALL religious paths that have a holiday in December, their religion is somehow being discriminated against.

Makes no sense to me, either. It would be nice to see "Blessed Yule" in storefronts, but I'm not offended that it isn't, because I'm aware that a myriad of holidays occur this month - not just mine.

Bright blessings!

And happy holidays is already toned down from Merry Christmas which offends people even more. If you cant accept that you live in a society that celebrates Christmas go live somewhere else. If you went to China or somewhere I doubt that they would give a rats *** that you dont celebrate Chinese New year and you are offended by their lack of respect for Christmas.

I think both Happy Holidays and Merry Christmas should be used.
Covers most. Not all celebrate Christmas. (as in Hanukkah)

"Happy Holidays" is too inclusive for some people. If their pet holiday isn't pushed above all the others, they get offended.

becouse it takes the reason for the season out of the name. Christmas is about the birth of Christ he is still the reason we have the holiday.

I don't know...it seems to cover all of the holidays nicely....but, some people will cry persecution if all people are taken into consideration.
