Is it because mold can grow in your pillow? What's the reason behind that?

I used to all the time when I had hair down to the middle of my back. I have naturally curly hair and to minimize the curl I would have my mom braid it for me and it took a good 3 hours for my hair to dry completely (If I used a blow dryer it would frizz do I let it dry on its own). When I got up in the AM it would just be waves. And that is an old wives tale that going to bed with wet hair causes colds! They are caused by viruses. If you already have a cold you don't want to do it because you lose heat from the top of your head. Also my hair NEVER smelled sour even though it was long. As long as it is washed at least every other day that will not happen. If the pillow cases and sheets are not washed at least once a week that can cause the problem.

maybe because your hair will not look good in the morning.
and it's not very good in general to sleep on a wet pillow...you can get cold

I think it's because when you're asleep, your body temperature drops and you release body heat through the crown of your head and also through your feet. If your hair were wet, your body temperature might drop lower than normal, but I've never gotten sick from going to bed with my hair wet, so I think it's an old wives' tale.

Maybe it's because your hair is more fragile when it's wet than dry- you know how they always say to comb it instead of brushing it. Although, the mold idea doesn't sound like it's too far off either! :)

If you go to sleep with your hair wet, whatever position the hairs are in, will stay that way when they are dry.

Because if you have long hair, it will smell bad, like sour smell. I had to inform a friend of this, and she really appreciated the advice. Hope you do too. If you have short hair, it won't affect the smell as much. Just make sure you brush it well before going to sleep.

I think it is more likely that a wet head will help you catch a cold. Good luck. Pops
