It's not okay to harass others, period. It never fails to amaze me how many people (on all sides) are incapable of accepting the fact that there will always be people who disagree with them.

There's a distinction between valid discussion/debate and using sites like this one as a soapbox for personal opinions, or to bash people who disagree with you.

The distinction is usually pretty clear.

OK? By what definition? Democracy has a classic "Tyranny of the majority" (a lot of people laugh at that statement, including the mother of my ex-girlfriend, but the issue of mob rule is a classical example).

Really, what happens is that people inevitably want to segregate eachother, based on race, culture, view-points, etc etc. If everyone lives in the community they want to live in, then you don't really have to restrict anyone's liberty. Unfortunately, that's completely impossible. First of all, the more seperate communities you have, the less economies of scale of production you have, so the overall quality of life (resource per resource) plummets. Second of all, these communities are at odds with each-other. One person might want to be in an all christian community, while a Christian might want to have some Jewish Producers around (I'm talking to you, Executive Producer of The Daily Show Jon Stewart!)

So, the entire idea is that people aren't happy with their lack of segregation, so they lash out. Is it legal? Sometimes. Is it morally right? You have to establish a standard. We don't have an absolute moral compass that's universal, because the rules of morality are based on premises that not everyone agrees with.

Is it socially EFFICIENT to harass others? Probably not.

No

But it's generally acceptable to be forceful in correcting someone or something when you view it to be in error with other information that shows a different point of view.

A lot of people here, however, do harass those who have bad spelling and grammar on a continual basis. Should that stop? I mean who are "you" to tell me how to spell! Why should I subscribe to your popular viewpoint. Can't I use Ebonics!

Christianity is a popularity contest, it reminds me of Junior high for adults, very snobby and very hateful towards outsiders, eventually they turn on each other like catty girls and boys.

No. This world would be so boring if everyone was exactly the same. There's a lot of good things you can learn from people who don't believe exactly as you believe.

Of course not, just because your opinion is the more popular, first does not make it the correct one and secondly does not entitle you to force it on others.

Opinion is something we are are entitled to, however when it comes to sharing that opinion you have to respect the opinions of others.

No it is not ok. The most popular viewpoint is not always the right viewpoint.

Absolutely not. People who do that are called "bullies". Nobody likes a bully, except, of course, other bullies.

This is an open forum, don't forget that. The word harass does not apply.

If you don't know the answer to this question then you are a very unintelligent person. This type of spam is what is making Y! answers meaningless and more of a bashing forum then a place for people to learn and communicate with others.
