I'm paraphrasing this from a question elsewhere.

Scientists are making computer programed virtual humans. If cut, they will bleed, reproduce new cells and shed old ones. Almost exact copies of humans and could be useful in drug testing.

I have visions of sci/fi stories like The Matrix and Battlestar Galactica running around in my head on this concept with regards to what happens when these "children" start to outsmart us and think for themselves.

Curious what different the different religious and spiritual folk think of this project.

The question is, can you create conciousness in a computer? I guess you could if it was complicated enough. Interesting question, I suppose the whole world of ethics will become a lot more complicated when the technology enables us to do this.

Also, if you created a computer which could think, how would you prove that it had conciousness rather than just processing algorithms.
