Righteous basically means to follow the law or commandments of God.
A righteous person doesn't lie because it is against the law.
A good person on the other hand doesn't lie because he knows it's not right nor is it loving.

Well righteous doesn't mean without sin. The Old Test shows that even Righteous men sinned.... Noah was considered Righteous. Job was as well. Personally I think it's closer to living Honestly rather than never making a mistake.

Righteousness is living up to a certain expectation and/or exceeding it. Jesus was considered righteous because he was not tainted by the world or sin in any way, because he kept above temptations, and denied himself the pleasures of the world and the flesh. Personally, if that's what I have to do to be righteous, I'll go to Hell, thanks.

it is an attribute of God whereby he is said to be holy and righteous, as Christians, we are made in RIGHT STANDING (righteous) through His Righteousness, and not our own, there are many that attempt to do it within there own righteousness, and Jesus calls them self-righteous, just as the Pharisees were, we can never become good enough before He receives us, we get God to get good, you don't get good to get God!

And who will turn away from the religion of Abraham but he who makes a fool of himself. Him did we choose in this world, and in the next he will surely be among the righteous.
It is not righteousness that you turn your faces to the East or the West, but truly righteous is he who believes in God and the Last Day and the angels and the Book and the Prophets, and spends his money out of love for Him, on the kindred and the orphans and the needy and the wayfarer and those who ask for charity, and for ransoming the captives; and observes prayer and pays the Zakat; and those who fulfil their promise when they have made one, and the patient in poverty and afflictions and the steadfast in the time of war; it is these who have proved truthful and it is these who are truly God-Fearing.
When the angels said, 'O Mary, God gives thee glad tidings of a son through a Word from Him; his name shall be the Messiah, Jesus, son of Mary, honoured in this world and in the next, and of those who are granted nearness to God;

Righteousness is living up to the God's standards as revealed in his Word the Bible. Jesus is righteous because he lived by those standard set forth by his father perfectly, until his death.

Jesus is righteous because He was more than human; He was spirit. We as human are striving for that same perfection. We are righteous when we live according to the word.

I regard "righteous" to be a conviction that oneself is absolutely right and there is no possibility of being wrong. It is a manifestation of arrogance and a desire for control over others. It is also a convienent rationalization for all manner of oppression.
