Sometime the fountain taste better because the mix of syrup to soda water is just right but I don't really notice a difference between cans and bottles.

Bottles. 99% of the time the taste of the soda is the same from a bottle as it is from a can, but you can put the lid back on the bottle to keep out nasty stuff, and as far as I know, they haven't invented a re-closeable soda can yet. Soda from a fountain is good, assuming the syrup to water mix is correct, but then you've got to think, not only about rather or not you will be able to drink it all before the ice begins to melt and waters your drink down, but also if the cups are clean, and with so many stores haveing the type of ice machines that the workers have to stock themselves with buckets, what kind of dirt and junk is in with the ice.

I like soda from a can. I've had some really bad fountain soda. Can't remember the last time I had soda from a bottle.

For taste, you can never go wrong with a can. Even the sound of popping the top makes me salivate.
But the other two have their merits. Who doesn't love slurping the foam off the top of a fountain drink? But sometimes it doesn't work and the soda tastes horrible. It's nice to re-cap your bottle during a busy day at work. But 24 ounces is too much soda for me.

Fountain is not the best way to go. There are too many variables, such as syrup to soda ratio. Most bottles and cans taste very similar. The best way to go is glass bottles. You can find Coca-cola, Jones Soda, IBC Sodas, and Stewart's Sodas in glass bottles. Those are the best.

Ahh..I consider myself a real pop-aholic. I drink way too much Diet Pepsi and Diet Coke.
My opinion is that it depends on what you're looking for:
Best taste: GLASS bottle. Just seems to be better, I have no scientific reasoning or proof. I just think it keeps it from absorbing any other impurities from the container. Beer is the same.
Best temperature: Can. It doesn't seem to get as warm as fast. I know fountain can have ice, but I don't like ice in my pop. It melts which dilutes the taste and it also seems to ruin the carbonation.
Best quantity: Fountain for portion sizes on the go. Cans are like shot glasses.
Best deal: 2-liter plastic bottles. Usually $.99 which you can not beat if you drink in the volume that I do. The exception: free refills while you're dining in! haha.

In my opinion soda form the plastic bottle or the fountain taste best, while soda from the can just doesn't.
