I'd like to know from a broad cross-spectrum of society, what people consider "Cheesy" when applied to wedding receptions.

Remember, what's "Cheesey" in my area (upscale Northern Californians) is probably "da bomb" in your area.

"Cheese is in the eye of the beholder".....EVERY AREA IS DIFFERENT.

Here's what I consider "cheesey" (please add to my list):
1) David Rose's "The Stripper" for theme music during garter removal tradition.
2) Newlyweds smashing cake in each other's faces.
3) Macarena
4) Y.M.C.A.
5) Chicken Dance
6) Hokey Pokey
7) Line Dances of all kinds (Electric Slide, Cha-Cha Slide, etc)
8) Conga Lines
9) Money Dances (its like "begging for money")
10) Swarmy "radio personality" DJs in tuxedos, acting like sleezy game show hosts, dominating the reception....it seems like they do more talking than play music.....

Your list is very complete, I would like to add:

-Cake toppers, They are so tacky. Ewwww
-The feather top pen and matching guest book.
- Cheap plastic wedding bells and useless personalized wedding favors.
-Paper decorations...yeah, those with the stupid white paper bells.
-The tulle bags filled up with almonds... is as cheesey and cliche as you can get.
-Endless speeches, and speeches from someone else other than FOB, BM and MOH.

and the cheeseist of all weddings......

BUFFET lines!!!! You can't top that.

Good luck

Wow I read through all of the previous answers and a lot people seem touchy today! As for my opinion from Seattle, I hate the cake in the face thing (getting married in July 07) and if it gets on my dress I am going to be pissed. As for the line dances, I love em they are fun and get everyone involved. I hate drunk DJ's or when you have a pastor who is your DJ also. I also cant stand the chicken dance except for watching the little ones have fun. I think that dollar dances are cheesy but smart for younger couples. Oh and I think getting married more than twice and expecting gifts at everyone is tacky too!

There is a difference in 'cheesy' and just plain ill-mannered and even abusive.

The chicken dance is "cheesy", but it is done at soooo many weddings.

Having the groom stick his head under the bride's dress to get the garter is "ill-mannered".

Smashing cake into the face of the person you just vowed to loved & care for is "abusive", unless it was planned by the two. Wedding cake is just what a bride wants on her $3,000 wedding dress.

All the above is considered cheesy, whether you're from upscale Northern California or not.

I would say balloon arches in the colors of the wedding are pretty cheesy too.

I am a Christian, but that doesn't mean EVERYONE else is.

I am attending a wedding. NOT CHURCH time.

I dislike when the wedding is more about religion than about the wedding itself.

Small 1 toilet bathroom (male /female) location for over 50-100 guests. Even better, an outhouse...

I find dirty dancing (down raunchy, basically humping and full blown make out sessions) is extremely tacky.

The garter thing is pretty bad, especially when they start playing games with different men and blindfolds.
Smashing cake is just mean.
Money dances, money trees, money "registries"
DJ who run the "show".
Music geared toward 22 year old hard-core metal heads only.
drunk brides
Bridal party giving themselves steak dinners, while the guests eat cheap pasta ("It's our day! We should get what WE want, but can't afford it for everyone.")
No-host bars

the cake smushing and the swarmy dj's are my biggest cheesy issues. The corny dances are actually kind of fun, and traditional cheese is acceptable (consider it aged cheese, like good cheddar),

a DJ verses a real band, food that came from Sam's club and was warmed in the microwave, making the guests buy their own drinks, brides maids fighting over a bouquet(same for groomsmen), trashing the couples car in the name of decorating it for the honeymoon, condoms blown up like balloons. . and Karaoke

I think its chessy when a wedding reception is B.Y.O.B. If the people you invited thought enough of you and your new spouse to come out and share in your special event, most bringing you gifts in the process, then you owe it to them to provide proper refreshments.

I totally agree. I also think that fake tossing the bouquet & garter belt are cheesy.
Games to see who gets to take the centerpiece home!
