I miss the honesty. There was a time when a man's hand-shake and his word, was all you needed ... no contracts and lawyers. I miss going shopping with my mom at the "general store" ... I'd walk in ... the bell above the door would ring, as the door hit it. The wooden floors would creak, all the penny-candy in jars by the till. Gawd, I miss those days .....

How about you? what do you miss the most?

Edit: Forgot ... the smell of my mom's kitchen, when she was baking Christmas goodies ... Mmmmmmmmmmmmm.

$2,500 for a new car. 20 cent gas. There was more to watch on those 3 channels, than there is today with 120+ channels. There was no Wally-World here to destroy my home town. They had stores on the square, and we all knew each other. You could buy a nice house for around $15,000.00. No video games. Kids played outside. If a kid got out of control, they just got a spanking. You didn't need 3 jobs to support a family. The sky was a deep beautiful blue, with big poofy clouds. No chem trails covering up the sky. etc......

Those markets with wooden floors never had a/c and the bins of fruit would send up the best smell.

You could bet a chopped beef bbq sandwich for 20 cents .
Cotton boll fights
Drive-in movies

Where I live, a man's word is still his bond.

I really miss having friends and people I can rely on to be there for me. So many people are caught up in their own little worlds and crazy schedules nowadays that they literally have no time to spend with other people. A number of others in today's day and age are parasites who will use you and step all over you. I miss the days when people could trust and respect each other without fear of being backstabbed.

Your car breaking down out on the highway, Black & White TV, burnt black toast because they hadn't invented a timer for the toaster yet, outhouses, rotary dial telephones with party lines, a total of 3 television channels to chose from, writing letters by hand, leaky fountain pens, those old cloth coats that didn't really keep you warm, putting tin foil on the rabbit ears to try to get better reception, watching movies at the theater when the film would break or the sound was all garbled, that tv test pattern, fixing flats, greasy spoon restaurants, and going to the dentist before they had novacaine - yep, them was the 'good ole days'!!!

I miss manners and proper English. I also miss the days when a yellow light meant "slow down" and not "speed up." I also miss the days when a red light meant "stop".

I miss the curmudgeons of olde. They'd always go ona nd on about how much better things used to be, forgetting things like polio, whooping cough, small pox, cholera and all sorts of other rampant diseases.

It only takes one power outage to put the "good ol days" in their proper perspective.

the 1 cent candy was great, and the 5 cent surprise bag was great too, and what about the vinyl singles we used to buy them for 15 cents, I remember I would ride my bike to Jerry's variety store and load up on junk for 25 cents a kid was never so happy.
