In the name of Allah, the Gracious, the Merciful.

And worship God and associate naught with Him, and show kindness to parents, and to kindred, and orphans, and the needy, and to the neighbour who is a kinsman, and the neighbour who is a stranger, and the companion by your side, and the wayfarer, and those whom your right hands possess. Surely, God loves not the arrogant and the boastful;

Whoso does a good deed shall have ten times as much; but he who does an evil deed, shall be requited only with the like of it; and they shall not be wronged

There is not an animal that crawls in the earth, nor a bird that flies on its two wings, but they are communities like you. We have left out nothing in the Book. Then to their Lord shall they all be gathered together.

And how many an animal there is that carries not its sustenance! God provides for it and for you. And He is the All-Hearing, the All-Knowing.

Holy Quran

Youve left one thing out of the book - a little disclaimer on the last page informing its reader that it is a load of crap...

Yes, I show kindness to animals and people - but not because of Allah or God. Neither exist. I show kindness to them in hopes that I am paid back with kindness being shown towards me. Might want to give that philosoiphy a try sometime.... Do it because its right - not because you are commended to by a non-existent entity.

Hey, it started out a decent enough question but then you pasted in some biblical (quranic, whatever) quotation.

You know, god (God, Allah, whatever) doesn't like people whose only contribution is to spout scripture. She told me that last night over beers over at the tittie bar (who knew God was a chick and was into that kinda stuff?). She says she wished she'd never agreed to let you guys put her name on those books and that you got the gender wrong (and yeah, she knows you all don't listen any more, that's why she knows you won't listen to me now - and give me a bunch of thumbs down).

But...to your original quesion: yes, I'm kind to both people and animals.

So what you're saying is that you are kind because your god is going to reward you for it.

In my book, that makes you a kiss-@$$. A sycophant. A buttkisser. A suckup.

I am kind to people and animals because it is RIGHT. I will not always be rewarded for it, sometimes I'll even get trampled because of it. But I'll keep on doing it for no other reason than it's what I should do, and I don't need a god to promise to reward me or a god at all to know right from wrong.

Yes you should be kind to animals and people. After all just because an animal can not talk doesn't mean it can not feel pain or other human emotions. Animals and people are the same in ALLAH'S eyes.

Yes, I show kindness to all, and attempt to treat all with honor and dignity whether they are human or animal. I also try to show kindness to this earth that we call home. I am not moslem, i am a Unitarian Universalist and we believe in the 'worth and dignity of every person' and the 'interconnectedness of life'.

I do. Wanna hear something almost silly? The other day I found a spider half drowned in the sink and I fished him out and used qtips to untangle his legs and dry him off. I do stuff like that all the time, I can't help it. I just can't stand to know that a creature of any kind is suffering and not do something about it if I can.

Yes, I show kindness to people and animals.
But not because some make-believe fairy-tale god tells me to, and not because some goat-herder from 1600 years ago tells me to...but because I'm a kind human being.

Yes, I show kindness to people and animals, but no I don't believe the Quran was inspired by God.

I show them kindness because I feel the need, not because anybody "commands" me to--perhaps Allah just put it in my heart

I do. Of course, it's often much easier to show kindness to animals than people.

Bright blessings!
