Hello, I'm trying to find a lounge for my wife's 30th birthday party. Her only request is that they play good music(i.e. hip hop, r&b, and classics). And a little area so we can dance.

Go to the rooftop bar at the Hotel Gansevoort in the Meatpacking District. It is super trendy and I usually meet friends there after work. Granted, it is more fun in the summer, but it still is a beautiful sight.
The other would be to go to the lounge in the Hudson hotel in 59th St. Right next to the Time Warner building. That place is always a great time for me.

this is really hot spot.... great after work for some down time and for .... Available for private parties, special events, & birthday parties.
Nice place SUPER Trendy, Romantic,Good social scene & happy hour
great music and quiet talk areas....you will score BIG with this place
