I'm not sure if I understand the problem.

If your laptop only outputs mono, then the stereo signal is lost at the source and it can't be reproduced at the other end. At best, all you can do is send the same mono signal to both channels.

However I've never seen a mono out on a computer produced since the early 90s. Are you sure you're not just using a mono plug or something? You might want to also check the software you're using to play music and make sure it's not set to mono output.

Every laptop I've ever seen has a normal stereo headphone jack and outputs stereo (if the recording was done in stereo, of course). If yours genuinely doesn't have stereo output, I recommend getting a new laptop or maybe seeing if a different sound card can be installed in it.

The problem you are having I doubt is mono vs stereo. Most "headphone jacks" are already stereo. If you look there should be a little groove and probably a black ring around the plug. That means it is a stereo cable (The sounds on the left will play out th left speaker/earpiece and the right will play out the right speaker/earpiece)

What I am thinking you are trying to do is make it so both the left speaker and right speaker plays the exact same thing. Kinda like this (sorry if it doesn't line up correctly as a final post):

] [ -speaker X- actor < >- sound

>>> ] -- [ <<<
-------X--------

What you would need to do is hook up an 1/8" cable (preferably a mono cable) out of the laptop and into a 1/8" to double 1/4" female to male adaptor. Then hook that adaptor to your speakers.

I assume that you have 1/4 speakers. If you are just using your desktop speakers they would be 1/8.

If you are serious about DJing I'd pick up some real equipment. What you have going now is really just a temporary fix.

usually thesound chanels can't be change but a sound filter and dual chanel converter can make really changes on the sound cuality.also depends of the recording and reproduction source.the kind of machine you have is compatible with those systems?check it out.
