I'm looking for something that is easy to use, cheap, can do some editing, good sound, good picture quality. Its to be used mainly for home to tape our grand daughter, parties, vacations, and camping.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I would suggest the Canons other the Samsung. You might also look into the Canon Elura 100 which is about the same price as the ZR700.

the closest the the Samsung SC-D363 is probably the SC-D365.

Samsung are expansive for their design but they arent good
get Canon ZR700, or check the Panasonic SV series (they also include music player)

It's true that Samsungs are a bit pricer, but then again it depends upon what your looking for. I would suggest that you look at a buying guide. I found some great ones on camcorder (http://wize.com/digital-camcorders) -left hand side.
