Maybe she thought you might be kidding and did not take it seriously, some women don't pay attention to facial expression and the attitude of the guy that is interested in her. Since you say you and her are closer than ever then, maybe after she realized you were serious and noticed the interest that she knew it was not a figure of her imagination, sometimes there is not a true explanation for why, It could be the chemistry between , some things you have in common, how far apart you live from each other what you do when you go out on a date or stay in a watch a movie, could be lots of things, it could be your charm,the loving heart you have to accept her for who she is , your smile, the way you dress,etc. These and many more could be why she is now into you now then ever before
