Maybe try speaking to her directly rather than snooping. If she finds out you were snooping into her conversATIONS SHE WILL not SPEAK TO YOU ABOUT IMPORTANT THINGS, Take her for lunch or go for a walk and ask her in a freindly, caring way about the things that concern you.

Where is she using the computer?

You should not let her use it in a place where you can't see what's going on.

Try talking to her without getting angry. You could even open the conversation by asking her to show you how to use the messenger programs she likes, and asking about who she's talking to online. Also, talk to her about safety. Teenage girls are the most likely to make bad decisions about meeting people from the Internet.

You ARE right to be concerned. Unfortunately for you, most of the messenger products are free software, so there is no way to get AOL or Yahoo to tell you who the person is -- they don't know.

there is a place in all messengers to save history...tell her it has to be enabled and you will have access to it at all times....I do this for my 11 and 13 yr old boys...they know if they disable it..I will change their password and they will no longer be allowed to chat online....works for us...and no, this isnt snooping..snooping would mean the kids have no idea it's going on...it's being a responsible parent making sure their children are using the PRIVILEGE of the internet in an appropiate way...my kids know they will be held accountable for anything they say on there and they act accordingly...have I always liked what I've read? Of course not..but thats where we decide as adults which things are typical for the age and which things are not appropiate or dangerous...and deal with it then..

Keystroke Recorder.
Install it in your computer and monitor your kid. But be prepare what you will find out and PLZ don't act violently with your child....only do it if you are mentally prepare to find out the worst.

You also can disconnect the computer from the Internet. Let then go to the library to do the homework.....there they block all the dangerous sites... I'm a Security professional.

There should be an option on your computer to save all the messages to a message log folder. Then you can read them later. But that might cause a trust issue and make your daughter really mad if she finds out, since it is like spying on her.

Prowl around in the options on messenger. Most of them will retain a log of all conversations. Turn it on and go back and browse.

You don't even have to buy anything.

you can buy software that will save everything she does on the computer without her knowing it you can then read all her messages, my sister did this when her hubby was acting funny and she found out he was cheating on her. Buy the program off the computer called in the know for around $20

Well as a parent she should be able to come to you and not talk to someone else about S.

sit down with her and talk to her like a loving parent should.

If she finds out that you checked on her message archive...she will never trust you again...

You don't sound like a participating parent in your child's life. seriously you need to make her feel she can trust you and come to you. You don't sound like a loving and caring parent who wants to be involved in her life except that you want to find out what she said to someone on IM. Shame on you...!!!

There are parental guides you can put on the computer. My husband is the "administrator" of our computer and he can check on just about anything any of us do. Or take away messaging privileges.
