People with lower incomes cannot afford good defense attornies and are usually appointed one by the state.

Since minorities make up the majority of the population in low income urban areas this means 1) there is a higher liklihood that they will committ the crime in the first place 2) if they are caught and prosecuted they will not be able to afford as good defense as a more wealthy person and the liklihood of going to death row is higher.

Yes, follow the money trail... OJ walked, spent several million on his defense.. had every resident of death row had similar representation 80% would have walked. That ghettos (Black and Hispanic) have a much higher capital crime rate guarantees the death row racial imbalance. The legal representation is such a problem the president even included it as a major national problem in his 2005 State of the Union address.

Yes minorities are executed at a rate significantly disproportionate to their share of overall population. They also have the risk factors at a greater disproportion and are offending at a higher rate so it may not be race discrimination but general sociological issues. Nevertheless, the whole system is flawed. In 1972, the Supreme Court, in Furman v. Georgia, called death penalty laws "arbitrary and capricious." Real experience in the court system teaches anyone it is a political system and not a justice system such as we are shown in school and on TV.

P.S. It costs more to run an inmate through the death sentence process than a conventional incarceration.

death row isn't a social group, a political party, or a form of results from a census report..they are on death row for being convicted of a heinous crime...minorities very well could end up on death row because of real and/or perceived inequity's in life...however, my personal belief is that each person has the power to overcome their environmental experience ...at least to the degree that they do not end up in jail for life or on death row....they may not be rich or living on easy street...no one deserves the blame for a crime commited (minority or not) other than the person who did it!

According to their proportion of the population, there are more blacks than any other group. That's because blacks break laws way out of proportion.
The only way to cure that would be when a black guy kills someone, the police would put him in jail then take ten whites right off the street and put them in jail for murder too.
The whites would be executed just to make the numbers come out. Would that seem logical ?

I spent 20 months in prison in Oklahoma and I'm female. The majority was white, then black, native American. I believe that these days, it doesn't matter what color of your skin is to be arrested and then sentenced. If people only knew how bad prison is, there would be less crime.

no, this is just liberal socialist propoganda that tries to prove that if whitey kills someone the "man" will let him get away with it but if a black, or hispanic, or foreigner kills the honkey cant wait to string him up! that aint the way it is. it is about color though, the color green!!!!
no matter what color you are u got a lot of money its highly unlikely you will get in a world of trouble. look at snoop dog.(he is a black dude) he is got money and he committed 2 felonies and aint even in jail! now if that was average joe public no matter the color he'd been in a cell as we speak. No it aint about race it is about wealth!
minorities who are not as well off and even whites who are not that wealthy also, they can only get a public defender who already has 70 or more cases to try themselves so they cant focus soley on one person and that is why they get crappy deals.
but forget about that if u committed a crime who cares the skin you should be punished! why is that so hard for you lefty socialists types to understand

It relies upon on the inhabitants that you concentration on the bottom inhabitants. case in element in case you study the inhabitants of demise row with the final inhabitants of my state, there's a disproportionate style of minorities -- no longer with the aid of lots even if that is statistically major. in case you concentration on the inhabitants of demise row and seem at it to the inhabitants of those who've been convicted of any felonious homicide, then minorities are disproportionately low on demise row.

All I have to say it anyone on death row, should have been executed within 24 hours of their sentence, think of all the tax payers money we would be saving, and maybe it might even work as a deterrant.

how can someone on death row be overrepresented wouldnt you think that they deserve a chance to speak on what they are being accused of. Would you rather no one represent them at all becuase they are on death row. i dont think any race should be represented more than the other my question to u is you are asking the question what do you feel about it and what are you willing to do to change it?
