We here of the prophetess Hulda who was a mere seamstress and translator. We hear of Ruth.

But evidently there must be a reason by GOD or man for woman roles not portrayed as vicariously as men?

God has mentioned many women in the Bible, many women of faith! Look at Leah in the Bible and Esther and there was even a prophetess named Anna. Read Proverbs 31- it is about a Godly woman.

This whole women's lib thing is out of control- why are so many women so wrapped up in themselves? It is not about US! It is about Jesus!

Many people don't know, or choose to forget, that the bible, in it current form, is not what what written by the original authors.

First... translators and copyists make errors, major and minor. For example, the King James version, one of the more common translations, is, from the point of view of many linguistics's, a very poor translation of the original Aramaic, Hebrew, and Latin texts.

Second... several times, the Vatican has rewritten sections of the bible, including completely removing entire sections. Since the Vatican is a male dominated organization, it makes sense that they would choose to remove any sections that do not promote men as dominant.

Third... while Judaism is matriarchal in terms of family lines, it is dominated by men, and always has been. Many sects still believe that men are Superior to women. It makes sense that the authors of the original texts would focus on the accomplishments of men over women.

During the times that the Bible was written women were considered the subordinates of men. They were not given educations or allowed in influential positions. Thus, they would not have a lot of input into writing the Bible. The Bible reflects the male attitudes towards women of the time.

Because during the time when the Catholics (yes the catholics) were deciding which books would go into the bible the fact that women were equal to men was simply blaspheme and utterly ridiculous so they excluded mentioning more women in the bible. And yes the Bible was written by man just as the Torah was written by man.

There are actually a lot of women mentioned in the Bible, its just that many people don't talk about them as much as the male counterparts. I would say that's more a problem of us than a problem with the Bible.

I Think many people's perception of a womanless Bible is based upon general ignorance of the subject. My solution read the whole book then comment.

It was man's doing.
Women were considered second class citezens, a tradition that spawned way back before the bible or any other religious texts.

The people who wrote the bible were men, therefore they were writting it from their male point of veiw, following the ideals of their culture. They'd been brought up to believe women were second class...So obviously their God agreed with them.

MEN wrote the Old Testament, (and the New for that matter), not women. Please remember that you are talking about very patriarchal societies that had fought against goddess-worshipping, female-run societies and won (sometimes). The authors of the various books of Old Testament mostly portrayed women as mere possessions, or evil (think of Eve, of Jezabel to name a few)... Please don't bring God into the writing of the Bible I don't Diety really had anything to do with it!

it was a patriarchal society women did not count for much in the time of the old testament and even the newtestiment Jesus made a point of including women yet now men try to make it mean something quite different.

Because the bible was written be sexist humans. In those days, women were far from equals. They were treated poorly, abused, etc. There is still a lot of sexism in the church today. Makes ya wonder eh? If sexism is wrong, why is it promoted in the bible = who wrote the bible, God or man?
