Realist ~ Isn't that exactly what the average person does when they go to church every sunday?
Read God's Word see that what they do is a sin but keep doing it. Everyone is a sinner and the sin is not by human degrees, a sin is a sin and YOU are a sinner.
That is why we need Jesus and he said not to throw stones if you live in a glass house and that the greatest thing you can do is love.
Or are you saying that homosexuality is such a large sin that it outweighs the other of THOUSANDS of sins out there that the bible also talks about?
Do you read a horoscope? That is a sin ya know.
Do you covet things (the jones's) and try to keep up with them by spending more money then you have (credit cards)? That is a sin ya know.
There are so many sins out there... how can the "church" pick that one and say that it is just to intollorable for them to bare? The Bible says that the only sin that is inforgivable is Slander of the Holy Spirit...

christian hedonist ~ I whole hartedly agree with you that sin is sin... but by your reasoning homosexuality is a greater sin then, let's say... going three miles over the posted speed limit. How many Christians broke the speed limit (thus sining because in all things give cesar what is cesars) just to get to Church services on time?
I am not trying to point fingers or bash Christians, all I am trying to convey is why are there ANY people in most Churches? Do any of them completely live up to Christs commands? Do many of them know this? Some might, others are blinded by their self rightousness, but the ones that do are they more guilty then the ones that don't? Because they know they are sining yet continue to do so.
As I understand it, SIN IS SIN. There are no degrees in God's eye as to how bad this sin is over that one.
Final question, where in the Bible does it say that a woman cannot lay with another woman? Just curious

Which church is that?
We love people. We are supposed to lovingly help others turn from their sins in private, we give them support and encouragement. If they still do not turn, we get a few more people to tell them what they are doing is not right in Gods eyes. If they continue, then we ask them to leave the church until they stop sinning. This goes for all sins, not just homosexuality.

God, Jesus, the Holy Spirit, and Christians DO NOT hate gays; they hate the sin, not the sinner.
I don't know any other way of stating this. Read the Bible and learn that God hates Sin and wants people not to perish by the choices they make.

In the past gays were a convenient minority that could be blamed and used as a scapegoat for just about everything under the sun, homosexuals were isolated and vulnerable and the Christian church kept it that way and used the situation to it's full advantage. Nobody will ever know how many millions of gay lives have been destroyed by the Christian church in the past and continue to be ruined & destroyed today.
The Christian church still vilifies and defames gays and ignores medical and scientific evidence because it would like to continue discriminating and using gays as a convenient scapegoat.
Discrimination against people because of sexual orientation is a human rights abuse and the Christian church is guilty of this crime, continuing to relentlessly spread an anti-gay message and trying to block equal civil rights legislation. They are however on the wrong side of history.

This is something many misinterpret. It's the act that is hated not the person who is gay. I have friends and family who are homosexual. I do not hate them, I love them as they are even though I don't agree with how they decide to live their life. There is a difference in how we feel for another and a difference in what we feel about the things they do, and I think that's what confuses others.
I think to some degree practicing homosexuality does out weigh other sins because it says specifically in the Bible that homosexuality is an abomination to God. You are correct, we are all sinners, but that doesn't change that all of us pass judgment on another. We all do it; not one person can say they have not passed judgment on another. The point is that as Christians we are to love one another even our enemies regardless of what we think of others actions. And another point is to become like Christ through His teachings. We may not be perfect, but through Him we can be tolerant and loving.

If by "Christian Church," you mean the Catholic Church and all of the Protestant groups as a whole, I cannot answer your question honestly. The Catholic Church does not hate gay people. What we have a problem with it the actions taken by homosexuals. Being gay does not make you a sinner. Lusting after another person or engaging in immoral acts with them does. For that matter, if a heterosexual lusts after another person or engages in immoral acts with them, they, too, are a sinner.
As far as the Protestants are concerned, I know that many of them believe the same as the Catholics do on the matter. There are some groups that hate homosexuals simply for being homosexual, however.

That is something tht I am trying to battle against. That's part of why I'm here and at the LGBT section.
Straight is not a prerequisite of being a Christian, being BI myself.
Trusting God through Jesus Christ is THE prerequisite of being a Christian.
The 'Church' tends to act like they have nothing to be repentant about. As if they were less sinning than a Gay person.
I will continue to war against their Satanic message.

Learning part of the Bible (the parts you like) is not the same as learning all of it. Many of the Christian faiths in America have discovered what for them is a wonderful thing--the vindictiveness of the Old Testament. Many have forgotten that little quotation that says: Let he who is without sin...well, you know the rest. B.

There are MANY kinds of Christians, and many kinds of Christian churches.
While I'd agree that a *majority* of the most vocal Christian churches engage in hateful rhetoric about gay people, this is not universal to Christianity or Christian churches.
Thye really are not all sex-obsessed homophobes.

There are degrees of Christianity. Some Christians won't even consider making a woman a minister or priest, while others make them leader of the whole national church.
These same liberal churchs, by the way, are ordaining gay priests, making them Bishops and in very rare cases marrying gay people.
Then there the other guys who say that not only are Gays bad, but any nation that panders to them is going to Hell in a Handbasket.

The Christian Church does NOT hate gay people.
It hates the sin of the *GAY ACT*. Just as it hates the sin of adultery (between heterosexual people), stealing, blasphemy...etc.
Gay people are to be loved just as all people are to be loved. But that doesn't mean that sinful acts should be encouraged. Hope that helps, God bless. ^_^
