What is a good graphic arts software? I'm thinking of getting a graphic arts degree but would like to play around with it before paying all that money for schooling.

Adobe Photoshop is the best and well known graphic arts software. Another good Adobe program is also Adobe InDesign.
To optimize your graphics from web use, Adobe ImageReady and Macromedia Fireworks are also great programs.

Well get either a trial version or hacked version of adobe photoshop or maya, or something similiar. But you should check what the school you wish to attend is currently using or ask someone in that field.
