The reason I ask this is because I've heard people refer to others as big-boned.

Have you ever studied skeletons in your biology class? If you get skeletons of similar ages and gender and ethnicity - would you expect them to be of identical size? Of course not!

As another answerer said, big-boned is just a politically correct way of saying 'fat'.

I won't talk about bone density because somebody else covered it. That varies too. Even disease can change that (osteoporosis).

But there are good examples of athletes who have overcome their small skeletal stature – by developing the muscles around their skeletons – to become world-class bodybuilders. Not all bodybuilders are born with nice, big skeletons, you know!

Of course not. Don't you think everyone would be the same size if all bones were the same size?

Short people have short bones, tall people have long bones. Big boned? That is a joke. That is the polite way to say you are BIG.

bone density and size varies dramatically from person to person..
You can look fat and have tiny bones, and the tape measure might show more inches, but weigh less then someone who is thin looking, but has dense bones and less inches..
Have you ever picked up a child and they felt like a feather, and other children feel like a sack of potatoes?.. It is their muscles and bone weight..
Also You dont think Kareen Abdul Jabaar has the same bone size as the average man?...

No. Some people have smaller bones than others. That's one reason why people come in different sizes and shapes.

no they arent! some women have tiny hip bones and rib cages, making their frame smaller, some women have broad shoulders, (the actual bones), etc...same for men. if every other part of our body varies from person to person, wouldnt bone size also vary?

Bones are the same shape in every person or animal group. Big boned is a sex joke.
