The core of the Christian religion is that we all have a fallen nature and are in need of salvation. Salvation is achieved by becoming a follower of Christ. But, where a lot of Christians, in my mind, go completely wrong is by believing in "cheap grace". Which amounts to nothing more that accepting Christ as your savior without becoming a follower of Christ. There is nothing at all in their lives and actions that is consistent with their professed belief. Our true beliefs are always reflected in our actions. If you believe that a big rainstorm is about to hit the area where you live, you don't go out wearing only shorts and a T shirt. Which is the equivalent of most all "Christians" behavior relative to what they say they believe. No one is saved before judgment day, Christ will decide. And as Christ has already said, on the last day he will tell many "Christians": "I never knew you"!

"Is it true that Christians believe in Original Sin and that Jesus is the antidote and the spell is broken and you are saved when you accept him?"
Yes. I believe in the Bible's rendition of when sin entered Adam and Eve. Jesus is the way provided by God to get 'out of it.'
"If that is true, what about the 10 commandments and the 7 deadly sins? "
They are violated daily by Christians and non-Christians. As I stated before, we are saved by trusting in the sacrifice of Jesus. That's the way it's done.
I'll say why after I quote your last question.
"Do people vary on their belief depending on Protestant or Catholic, ect...?"
Not only because they hare those things, but within those denominations, they also disagree. We all can make up our own minds about any of those things. (Hence we don't tend to be the'robots' that people claim that we are.)
I think that the distinction is that there are those that try to live a 'clean' life, and those that keep their eyes on Jesus.
I am convinced that the Ten Commandments and all other other 600 commandments are impossible to keep. God knows it too. So why all the fuss about the Ten Commandments?
It's popular. :)
People seem to live in a box with certain carefully laidout boundaries. They have to have numbers of stuff, and clearly set borders. Otherwise, they won't understand it. (It's funny sometimes. :)
But the Bible shows that Jesus died for all sin. And that we are incapable of obtaining 'righteousness' by our own efforts. So we need to keep our eyes on Christ, examining ourselves only to see IF we are in faith! And it also states, that we are fulfilling the Law of Moses by being in the faith of God.
It's clear, but difficult to understand for most people. Instead, they go on with the lists the find in diverse places stating that these 'types' of people will not be able to enbter into heaven. In so doing, they actually are denying themselves a place, being sinners and hypocrites as WE ALL ARE! (Imperfect beings we are!)
I hope that helps you see.

Yes, people do vary in their belief. Catholic and Protestant is different. But, there is a real difference also in Protestant (which is actually Catholics in protest of the pope), and Christianity in general. There is a "whole Christian world" out there that is non-Catholic and also non-Protestant.
Original sin, or inherent sin is what were were handed down from Adam. The 7 deadly sins is a Catholic thing, and doesn't really mean anything to Christians outside Catholicism.

The 10 commandments and the 7 deadly sins gives us a guidline. All of us have sinned and Jesus is the one that can forgive those sins. Most Christian denominations believe the same thing. They may focus more on different aspects of the Christian faith but a true Christian church believes Jesus is the Son of God and the only way to heaven is by believing in Him. They also believe the Holy Bible is the Word of God.

Sin came into the world through Adam, and so it spread to all men, because all sin. Jesus offers forgiveness of sin if we will confess Him as Lord and believe in Him. The ten commandments were given to tell us what sin is. The Bible says through the law we receive the knowledge of sin. Without a law there is no sin. There are no seven deadly sins recorded in the Bible, that is someones own addition to the Bible. Yes people vary very much depending on their denomination. We all study the same Bible but come up with different ideas depending on a number of factors. Some denominations add to the Bible extra writings and that maks some differences. Some reject things because they just don't like it (eg most believe in heaven, but reject hell even though both are taught in the same book) Some reject laws because they want to sin. Catholics and protestants differ extremely.

The Old Testament is a history book and the New Testament is how you should live your life today. The 10 Commandments in the Old Testament are rolled up into two in the New Testament.
You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind. This is the greatest and the first commandment. The second resembles it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself.
The Bible is divinely inspired, ie. written by God through men. The Catholic religion has added countless rituals and restrictions to what's in the Bible, so you'll have to find a Catholic to tell you about the seven deadly sins.
I believe in the Bible. I don't believe in the additions and restrictions the Catholics, Baptists, and others have added.

The 7 deadly sins refer to the Old Testment, while the other @#$ about remission of sins by Jesus came very after it. It is like some renewal had occurred from the old to the new testment. Jesus got later on to be the mesiah, so why bother about other stuff if he could manage to do whatever he pleased? All the things were simplified when Jesus appeared, and then there was a break up between Christians and Jews. I think it´s all a huge load of #$&*, but I hope it helps. Regards, Gabriel.

I have never heard of Jesus as an "antidote" but I think that is a pretty cool description.
We are under new law and new covenant, so the ten commandments are to be fufilled. They are mostly teaching about how to live with each other. And how to live with God in harmony.
The seven deadly sins aren't in the bible.
Yes people vary on what they focus on as important. I just try to follow Christ, and the leading of the Holy Spirit.
be blessed.

I don't believe in original sin. Babies can not sin. The ten commandments and seven deadly sins have nothing to do with it. Yes, people do have different beliefs depending on their religion. Not all Protestants believe the same either.

I believe in the 'original sin' the eating of the apple cause humans to 'believe they were God', came to understand things, thus causing the generations to be sinful in nature.
The 10 commandments are still in place, just because someone call Jesus their savior, doesn't mean they will be if they do not do the works that God commanded.
The 7 deadly sins are the ones some catholic decided were the worst sins.
People do vary their belief. Most humans want their religion to better them, they want their church to work for them. They do not want to work for God.
