Fathers are human. Human nature (apart from God) is rooted in selfishness which leads to horrible choices (such as leaving their families). When a father makes choice based upon this selfish nature it obviously teaches us nothing about the character of God, seeing how God is just the opposite. What it does teach us is that men need a Savior - this world is in a fallen state and to this day sin still damages and destroys.

Our natural fathers can't ever be our role model for God. They are just too prone to sin as we all are. You have it backwards. God is our role model for all humanity. However, it is humanity that has rejected God for their own understanding which is why some fathers leave their families. The bible makes it clear that men who leave their families and don't provide for them is worse than in infidel!

Our fathers are not our role models for God. God is the role model for our fathers. God is perfect, he asks for all fathers to take care of the children not only to care for them but to instruct them all the time. God abhors the fact that children would be without parents let alone a father. There were punishment set place in ancient Israel for people who did not take care of orphans. Children who were not even their own Now how do you think he would feel of a parent abandoning his own.He also promised us that if our families were to abandon us we have him. So,me who are ready to leave their own have no right to be compared to God.

I was never taught to compare God with my own father. That is a far fetched comparison. Men are weak and chase after petty desires. Men are not powerful or righteous enough to take care of their own children. My father left when I was three years old, and I never once blamed God, or compared God with my father.
God is above man, and above our stupid selfish mistakes. Peace.

You can't blame God for your father's or anybody elses bad behavior. You said two key words, "supposed to". We all have "free will" to either obey Him or not to. Since your dad probably hurt you, it's up to you to discover what God is about for yourself and seek Him. You are also free not to seek Him in anything. You have to have a heart to hear Him. He is not like man and His ways are not like ours. He never leaves or forsakes His own.
