im a christian, but i believe this should be posted in the english or ettiquite section, posting here would get you lots of unwanted silly comments from atheist/agnostics/evolutionists.

Taken from site below:

"Sooner or later, you're probably going to be presented with an award. It may be a surprise, or you may have time to prepare. Use your answers to the following questions to weave a warm, wonderful story that will leave everyone with a big smile (and maybe a tear.)

Who nominated you?
Who invited you to join this group or encouraged you to get involved in this project or event?
What is your connection to this group?
How do you feel about the people and the organization's goals?
Why are they giving you this award?
When was the first time you attended a meeting and what were your experiences?
Have you seen someone else accept this same award? People will not remember all the details of what you say, but they will remember the stories you tell. Include a memorable vignette or incident, something entertaining or touching about your connection. "

Humor is often a good way to start any speech. If you know of any gentle but funny anecdotes about the person that you KNOW they would not mind being told, share them. Use that to lead into why you believe this person has done all these good things, then list those good things, then tell why those things reflect why he's getting the award.

"I remember back about six months ago, me and Tom were working on a Habitat for Humanity house and while we were painting the back room, he fell off a ladder and got conked on the head by the falling splatter of red paint ... I asked if he was okay and he sat without missing a beat ... 'So this is how I look covered in the blood of the lamb...' But seriously. Habitat for Humanity is just one of a dozen organizations Tom has helped. He's been a vocal proponent for education, raising over twenty thousand dollars through dund raising efforts for local children, he has participated in a K9 Search and Rescue team that has rescued, how many Tom? Ten? Ten people this year, and helped bring closer to countless families. His time and dedication to his fellow man is why we present Tom with this years's 'I Kick Butt' award."

Notice how I started with a silly anecdote that lead into listing his accomplishments, summarized that his time and dedication are why he's getting the award, and then did the presentation.

First tell everyone about the award, then tell the audience how the church member earned the award, then thank the church member for his work. I'd keep it short and sweet.

You may find an idea, or turn of phrase, at:
1 Timothy 5: 17,18
Colossians 3:15
1 Thessalonians 5:18

Don't worry about what to say. Dont worry about making certain you say somthing to impress or thank the audience.

Speak from your heart. Say what You FEEL.

God gives us the words and the messege from within, when WE choose to listen. But to listen, we must feel him. Feel his peace within you, and all else falls into place.

Yet also know, that doing a million things , and much work for the church or community, Does Not make you closer to God or knowing God or even showing yourself to God anymore then the drunk on the street.

It is You Actuall connection to Him that matters and reveals You to Him.

If you actually do things from your heart, then do it withOUT praise.

For the praise received from the church is from the church, Not from God.

Do things in silence. and He sees you.

Be carefull , for Ego is raised tooo much in church.

A lone man, walking poor and sleeping on sundays, is more closer to God then one who goes every weekend and doing loads of charity work.

Because the poor man walking , is confident enough to know that he will walk where He wants while being kind to others, and he will do so, without fearing what god thinks of him , For he Knows already how much He is loved.

THIS is Faith. A faith that so many have forgotten.

More faith is shown , when someone lives there life regardless of other opinions, Knowing that God loves them no matter what.

Jesus himself , pointed out to a crowd, a tax collector, saying unto them "this man has more faith then i have seen in ALL of Judea."

Remember?

Jesus stood in the town, and a tax collector, a man with "most sin" , came to jesus , asking him to help, that his servant was dying .

When Jesus asked where is he?

the man replied," i am a big sinner. For i have servants, I tell them go, and they go, and i tell them to do this and they do it. My house is not worthy to have you enter.

YET if you just say it so , then my servant will be healed."

And this is when Jesus smiled. A smile larger then Ever before, and said unto the people, as he placed a hand on the tax collector's shoulder," Never in all of my travells, Have I seen a man with soo much faith, go , your servant is healed."

3 part speech.
1)What the need was before he came along?
2)What specifically he did to solve the problem?
3) What changes has he accomplished?
