It may already be too late to save his life, but unless you just want to stand by and watch him die a drawn-out and miserable death, get him to a veterinarian NOW....like RIGHT THIS MINUTE.

And pray.

ETA: It is not a 'blood thinner'....it causes the blood not to be able to clot normally, so he's bleeding to death internally. It is an ANTICOAGULANT rodenticide. It is NOT a blood 'thinner'!!!!

ETA#2: This is not a situation in which you "wait for his appointment".....you tell the clinic that he ate mouse poison 2 days ago and now can't stand up. They'll get you in as an emergency NOW....do not wait. Every minute counts at this point. (Btw, it only takes a few granules of the poison to kill most dogs, and it usually takes a couple of days before symptoms develop.) Get on the phone and tell them you're on your way!!! They can do 2 quick blood tests (a hematocrit, also known as a PCV or CBC, and a clot time) to determine if he can't get up from the mouse poison. If confirmed, I guarantee you that they'll stop every other case they're working on to tend to your dog immediately. If those tests are normal, everyone can take a deep breath and sigh of relief until they have time to x-ray him for arthritis.

Waiting for an appointment? Good lord, take the dog to AN EMERGENCY VET. He has been POISONED. Would you call your family doctor if your child had been poisoned, and wait a few days for an appointment? NO, you would take him to the ER.

Is this question for real?

I can't believe that anyone who knows that their animal has ingested soem type of posion would wait to see a vet. Like someone else said, if your vet didn't see this as an emergency and tell you to get the dog in their office immediately or to an emergency clinic, get a new vet AND call the AVMA and report him/her.

Most mouse poison is a blood thinner that causes internal bleeding. If your vet is making you wait for an appointment....FIND A NEW VET!!! This is an emergency. Your dog needs Vit. K to keep from bleeding to death.

this is an emergency take him to the vets immediately. he has absorbed the poison and could potentially die.
he is very critical and needs immediate attention as soon as it happens. this may be irreversible.
take the container of poison to the surgery as well so the surgeon knows exactly what the dog ingested.
be quick he needs emergency aid.
the poison prevents blood clotting so may be bleeding internally.
vomiting/diarrhoea and neurological signs are often a sign of the poison.
arthritis worries can wait......this need to be the main concern.

Mouse poison (Warfarin or Coumadin) is a vitamin K inhibitor. It prevents the body from producing new red blood cells. Your dog has been literally been bleeding to death from the inside! Take him to the vet immediately! Unfortunately, the poison has been metabolized by now, and it may be too late. I hope he gets better, but by now his chances are greatly diminished. Best of luck to you.

Call the vet ASAP (as soon as possible)! The vet should have been notified the moment you found out he got into the rat poison.

Get off the computer and get him to the vet! Why have you waited a couple days?!! The damage already caused may be irreversible.

you need to take him to the vet, ASAP. It might even be too late now, rat poison has a blood thinnner in it and will kill your dog.
I'm not going to go into all that it will do, just please get him to a vet now..........hurry!!!
whatever it is, if it's not checked, it will kill your animal
