Understand the true meaning and purport of Heaven and all your queries would automatically dissolve.
Heaven (aka Swarga in Hinduism) is a place in the mighty Cosmos wherein the souls rest in peace until they get to manifest a body on Mother Earth. But there is one condition attached. Any soul can only go to Heaven provided there is a positive balance of karma in hand.
All souls with a negative balance of karma go to hell (aka Naraka in Hinduism).
For every soul (aka Atman in Hinduism) at any point of time there are three abodes available. Either manifest a body on Mother Earth provided matching womb is available (for any soul to manifest on Mother Earth the existence of matching parents is an essential must).
If the matching parents are not available on Mother Earth then it is imperative that the soul would have to rest either in Heaven or hell based on the balance of karma of the earlier manifestations.
And what is karma? Right from the first manifestation the closing balance of any life form is transferred to the next manifestation through the process of karma. It is only karma which keeps the system going. In absence of karma the complete existence of Cosmos would come to a halt.
Does this mean that the reincarnation and the rebirth theory are correct... yes, they are hundred percent correct. Every human being started his first journey as an amoeba (single cell formation), then evolved into insect life, animal life and finally gained the form of a human being.
In all these stages the system of Heaven and hell plays role only after one has manifested the form of a human being... the last in the chain of manifestations.
We need to remember here that it is not Heaven that one would want to go but it is the kingdom of God where Mahavira, Gautama Buddha, Jesus Christ and Prophet Mohammed went. More on heaven here- http://www.godrealized.org/heaven/way_to_heaven.html

No. Obeying the 10 commandments was required of the Jews, but not for heaven.

The Bible says :John3:16-"For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. For god did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him."
John 3:36-"Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life, but whoever rejects the Son will not see life, For God's wrath remains on him."
You do not get to heaven through obeying the 10 commandments. The commandments do prove that everyone falls short of the glory of God and needs a Savior.
It's not by works of righteousness that we have done but according to his mercy he saved us.
The old sin nature is with us always. God has solved the sin problem through his son and the gift of the Holy Spirit. Peace out.

Yes. But all have sinned some where some how. Even one sin will keep you out of heaven. The wages of sin is death.
So, I guess we all have fallen short in this, so can't make a way ourselves into heaven.
Except, of course, that God sent His Only Begotten Son, that whosoever Believes In Him will not Perish but will have ever lasting life.
That Jesus shed His own Blood for the remission of our sins. That the Gift of God is ever lasting life in Christ Jesus. Jesus was the atonement for our sins, because He was without sin. The righteous has to die for the unrighteous. Jesus was without sin, so death couldn't keep Him in the Grave. So Jesus raised from the Dead (by the strong arm of God). So Jesus is our High Priest forever. We just need to seek Him. He is the Way, Truth & Life. When we accept/ confess Him into our heart as Lord and Savior & believe in our heart that He raised from the dead, we will be saved (inherit ever lasting life), because we are then born again, born of the spirit cleansed by His Blood. Joint heirs with Jesus as we travel this sod, we are part of the family, the family of God.

The 10 Commandments are to show people they have sinned against God- it brings knowledge of sin- but it is only through the grace of God and salvation through Jesus Christ that you can enter Heaven.
"For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith, and not of yourselves it is the gift of God" Ephesians 2:8
Romans 5:19-21
19For just as through the disobedience of the one man the many were made sinners, so also through the obedience of the one man the many will be made righteous.
20The law was added so that the trespass might increase. But where sin increased, grace increased all the more, 21so that, just as sin reigned in death, so also grace might reign through righteousness to bring eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Romans 3:20
Therefore no one will be declared righteous in his sight by observing the law; rather, through the law we become conscious of sin.
-It is by believing in Jesus Christ, that He died and rose again on the 3rd day, defeating death, so that you would be set free from sin- forgiven. Of course we should always obey the Lord- and that is why He gives us His Holy Spirit when we are saved- see Ephesians 1-2 and John 14.

When the rich young man asked Jesus what he had to do to have eternal life, the first thing Jesus told him was "obey the commandments". I wonder why Jesus didn't tell him "accept me as your personal Lord and Savior"? Sounds like what we DO or don't DO has a lot to do with our salvation.

There is no Heaven. The 10 Commandments is an outdated list. No fixed list of rules covers all situations.
Instead of being spoon-fed your morality, try using your brain and consider each situation.
