A hangover is caused by dehydration - basically alcohol is what is known as a diuretic (it makes you pee more liquid out than you drink)... this means that drinking alcohol leaves you dehydrated.
Your brain in particular is very sensitive to dehydration (which is why your head hurts so much!)
The cure is to re-hydrate yourself... drink lots of water or isotonic drinks (the sports drinks with sugar in them). You will need to drink much more fluid than you think because the brain is a very poor judge of dehydration. If you have a really bad headache then a couple of soluble aspirin in the fluid will help.

In addition to making sure you drink enough water, also take a B complex vitamin the day you are drinking. The metabolism of alcohol uses up certain B-vitamins, which can contribute to hangover symptoms.

My hangover cure...Gatorade! It helps build the electrolytes that were lost during dehydration (alcohol). I drink a glass before bed with an advil and then the next day. Also try B12 before you start drinking Good luck

Lots of good sound advice on here. You can' t go wrong with any of it. My personal solution(s) are...if I know I'm going to be drinking, I keep water and munchies around. You'll need more than booze on your stomach before you go to bed. I also take a couple of tylenol before bed. And, if I can help it, I stick with one type of drink. For example, if I'm drinking mixed drinks, I stick with that. If I'm doing straight shots of whatever, I stick with that. I don't sample the bar, it's not a buffet after all.

Drink at least 16 oz of water and one can of a diet supplement shake like Slim-Fast. They are full of nutrients your body needs and the water will hydrate you to relieve the headache.
