You should try doing an inhalation. You can use a facial sauna or the old fashioned head over a bowl of hot water and a towel over you head trick. Add some essential oils such as, 2 drops of eucalyptus and 2 drops of rosemary in the water to stimulate clearing congestion.
Also, Combine equal parts of eucalyptus, tea tree and lavender oils for a sinus bath blend. There should be a maximum of 5-6 drops (total) and you will need something to disperse the oils into the water, a bath carrier is ideal or if not a splash of milk will do the trick. (without this the oil just sits on the surface and is not as beneficial.) Do not add any soap to the water as this will take away the properties of the oils. If you want bubbles then I would recommend buying yourself a bath carrier.
You can also try massaging a 1% dilution of peppermint oil on your temples. There are many different carrier oils out there, one of the best ones in terms of versatility is Grapeseed.

Please follow precautions when using essential oils too, Rosemary is not suitable if you have high blood pressure and Eucalyptus is not suitable for diabetics.

I hope you find this usefull :-)

UGH! Blocked sinuses are the worst!!

Most of the time when I notice that my sinuses are acting funny, I end up getting a sinus infection. I then go to the doctor and get put on an antibiotic. Make sure that if you have an infection, you get it checked out. The longer its there, the worse it gets (it seems).

If you dont mind taking medications, I'd look for something labled "Relieves sinus pressure".

If your not into taking medications, or you cant take them for some reason, I find that a hot shower helps. The steam is good for loostening up all that gookie nasty stuff. They also have these new things...the brand is SudaCare and they're called Shower Soothers. I recently just got over some sinus problems and the shower soothers really did give me some relief. (espically in the mornings when I was all clogged up!!)

Hope you feel better!!

I have allergies ,asthma and I have discovered the best product. It is called "Simply Saline". It is an aerosal saline spray. It is much superior to saline in the squeeze bottles. you can easily wash your sinuses without irritating your mucous membranes. When my sinuses get stopped up,I start with this and it hasn't failed. If you have an infection, you will probably need antibiotics. If the discharge has any yellowing you have an infection . The more infection the more yellow and can get sort of green. I'm sorry that description is so gross but you need to know.Don't take antibiotics unless you really need them. We are developing resistance to our antibiotics because we use them when we don't need them.Simply Saline has one drawback. It costs $5-6 a can. You get better value with the 3oz rather trhan the 1.5oz. I called the company and asked if the price would go down as other companies begin to copy them. She says they will not be copied and as far as she knows there is nothing in the works to reduce the price. She did however send me a book of coupons. I even tried to see if I could buy it in bulk to reduce the price. When it's peak allergy season or to deal with your problem ,I can easily use a can in a day. As you can see I endorse this product. Use this product to keep your passages free of allergens and viruses . Please give it a try,you want regret it. Good luck :)

The easiest way is to take a pill.

Another way is to gently press along your lower eye socket with your fingertips starting at the hairline and working towards the nose. What you are actually doing is moving whatever is in the sinuses out to the nasal drainage area.

You can also take a nice hot steamy shower. After you are dried all off and dressed, go outside if it's cold. The cold after the heat is like exercising the sinuses - it will make the tissues alternately swell and contract so that they drain.

I don't know any actual "cures" however here are some things that I personally swear by: Vicks Vapo-Rub!!!! Not just on your chest, try putting a little tiny bit right underneath your nose, and a little tiny bit across your forehead over the sinus area. Just watch out that you don't get it into your eyes, because that hurts!! And Vicks also makes an 'inhaler' that you put into your nostril and breath in. Also... there are the new things called "shower soothers" (that you can find near cough drops and stuff in the pharmacy section at stores) These things work wonders! It's just a tablet that you put on the floor of the shower, and it, combined with the warm water and steam reall y seem to work well!!!Good luck!

hi Scarlet, in my journey with those negative infections, the discomfort comes from swelling. because the sinuses are excreting mucus and they don't care in the journey that they are blocked, the stress builds up. So, a thanks to remove the stress is to get rid of the swelling... make experience? I do a number of issues, first I take anti inflammatory over the counter drugs (aspirin or ibuprophen). I stay faraway from discomfort killers which include Tylenol/acetemenophine because they don't cut back inflammation. 2d, once you're 'open' from taking a decongestant, make confident you wash the sinus cavities with some type of irrigator which will serve a number of applications, a million- to bathe out the accumulation of mucus, 2- to bathe out the particulates that may were causing the an infection interior the first position. wish this enables.

I highly suggest, if this is an ongoing problem, that you have an evaluation of an eye, ear and nose specialist. You may have more than just allergies that are causing the blockage. Or, it may be a matter of obtaining a prescription nasal spray. There are many available that open the sinus passages for better air flow. You'll be amazed how much better you feel when you can breath normally again.
Good luck!

Increase your water intake it helps loosen the mucus. Over the counter medications containing guaifenesin when taken with plenty of water help release it too, ask your doctor about them. Quick comfort measures that work for me are standing in a hot steamy shower and blowing away as needed blocking one nostril at a time. A hot beverage also makes me feel better.
Finally, look at the cause for sinus congestion in the first place, is it allergies? Treat it to prevent the excess in mucus production in the first place. Good luck!

Bowl of steaming water with eucalyptus oil. Cover your head with a towel and inhale the steam for as long as you can. Rub your chest and your neck with Vick ointment before going to bed.
If they do not respond to that you may have to see a doctor as if you have an infection you will need antibiotics.

sinus blockage can be due to many reasons like contact wid specific things u are allergic to, the change in the season (cold weather), even infections of upper and lower respiartory tract to name a few,....
i would suggest (presuming winter has settled in ur plcae) u try out warm clothes like scarf or mufflers, do some steam wid and widout menthol whichever is okay wid u, then try out inhaltion of this...to about 150 ml of water add half a spoon each of sodabicarb and salt then taking the mixture in water in ur palm inhale it thru each nostril by turn till the fluid comes out thru ur mouth....it helps, u can try warm saline water gurgling, u can also try out nasal drops like otrivin (xylomethazolin) with antihistaminics like cetirizine also low dose steroid sprays locally containinf mometasone or fluticasone...however if thses measuresfails to give any relief within a wekk consult ur G.P. for some suitable antibiotic or better antiallergic drugs....
