Alright I have two cats aged 12 and 10, Sophia and Rainbow. Sophioa is Rainbows mom and Rainbow never bites or anything enless you really piss her off. Sophia on the other hand has always been so weird. She will come up to you all loving and wanting you to pet her, after about 5 minuites though she'll snap at you and hit you (she doesn't use her claws) and occasonially bites(not hard) and runs away. Any idea why she does this? She always has by the way, nothing new.

Typical cat behavior actually. They are so independent that she only wants attention when she wants it not when you want to give it to her. She may have asked for the attention by coming up to you but that is her way of telling you "Ok I'm done" if she really meaning to hurt you then she would bite hard or use her claws on you. My cat has done the same. It's not weird at all it's just how they are.

I have a cat like that as well. It may just be her personality, but I think that if you always played rough with her when she was a kitten then that carries into adulthood. I can't hold my cat now as much without her turning on me, and I think that's why. To help this you could take a spay bottle with water and everytime she starts to snap and hit then spray her with some water. Eventually she'll get the idea and won't be as playful.

It's a game for her. Cats have this sort of instincts. My cat rolls on the floor like he wants to be petted, and when you touch him he grabs your hand and bites it softly! It's his idea of fun! Then he hides under the table and when you pass beside it he pounces and grabs and bites your leg, just once, softly, and then runs and wants you to chase him! If you catch him, Ok, you win, if you don't, and he reaches his "base" (his scratching post), he then chases you back to grab and bite you! Cats play!

I have two cats, and my male cat is that way. I think they come to you and want to be petted, but after a few minutes they have enough, and that's their way of letting you know! Why they don't just walk away without the dramatics I don't know! lol!

My female torti is good for doing that too. Although she uses her claws and bites, hard.

It just goes to show that we don't own our cats, they own us. My cat comes to me for attention and when she's had enough she gets all pissy, bites, scratches, and runs away.

That is the cat's way of letting you know they have been petted enough.

After 12 years you should be use to it and know how long to pet.

Sometimes cats get too excited and they tend to just play roughly with you. It's okay, it's nothing to worry about.
