18But the things that come out of the mouth come from the heart, and these make a man 'unclean.' 19For out of the heart come evil thoughts, murder, adultery, sexual immorality, theft, false testimony, slander. 20These are what make a man 'unclean'; but eating with unwashed hands does not make him 'unclean.' 20Instead we should write to them, telling them to abstain from food polluted by idols, from sexual immorality, from the meat of strangled animals and from blood.

12The night is nearly over; the day is almost here. So let us put aside the deeds of darkness and put on the armor of light. 13Let us behave decently, as in the daytime, not in orgies and drunkenness, not in sexual immorality and debauchery, not in dissension and jealousy. 14Rather, clothe yourselves with the Lord Jesus Christ, and do not think about how to gratify the desires of the sinful nature.
Sexual Immorality
12"Everything is permissible for me"—but not everything is beneficial. "Everything is permissible for me"—but I will not be mastered by anything. 13"Food for the stomach and the stomach for food"—but God will destroy them both. The body is not meant for sexual immorality, but for the Lord, and the Lord for the body. 14By his power God raised the Lord from the dead, and he will raise us also. 15Do you not know that your bodies are members of Christ himself? Shall I then take the members of Christ and unite them with a prostitute? Never! 16Do you not know that he who unites himself with a prostitute is one with her in body? For it is said, "The two will become one flesh."[b] 17But he who unites himself with the Lord is one with him in spirit.
1 Corinthians 6
18Flee from sexual immorality. All other sins a man commits are outside his body, but he who sins sexually sins against his own body. 19Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; 20you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your body.

The Old Testament is a history book, the New Testament is how we should live our lives today. The New Testament says adultery is a sin, ie. having sex with someone that is already married, it doesn't directly address pre-marital sex as the piece of paper we call marriage today didn't exist in Bibi cal times. In many places sex between two unmarried people is considered the marriage ceremony. So if they have sex with someone else then they are guilty of adultery.

God made sex for us to enjoy.
A whole book (of the 66) is devoted to it's pleasures - the Song of Songs.
Where it's far more explicit than even some of todays manuals and books on it. Not many dare to go into how it affects some of our senses and emotions, not just at a spiritual level.
Sex is holy too. It's also very powerful - abusing it leaves people with some serious issues - it affects us at the core of our being.
It's not condoned in the bible when it's immoral - usually outside marriage. Old translations use the words fornication (before marriage) and adultery (after marriage with someone other than wife/husband).
Marriage is just a public vow of commitment in the sight of God.
It also happens to be legally/judicially recognised.
In the ten commandments it says 'You shall not commit adultery'. It was expected that most people of marriageable age, would be married. And if they were tempted to have extra-marital sex, it would be after they were married.
Jesus says that "anyone who even looks at a woman with lust in his eye has already committed adultery with her in his heart" Mt 5:28.
So the answer is yes to both questions.

Pre-marital sex is considered as fornication in the Bible.
Acts 15:20
1 Corinthians 6:18
2 Corinthians 12:21
Galations 5:19
Ephesians 5:3
ALL speak against fornication.
Note the recommendation by Paul if one wishes to engage in sexual activity ....1 Corinthians 7:1

The Bible doesn't really talk about premarital sex. However, the example the Bible give about appropriate sex are all within context of marriage. I believe that once a couple has sex they are married. The problem arises when we try deny that marriage has happened. When we try to deny the spiritual connection that has just taken place between the couple. Our hearts are torn into many pieces.

I know a couple verses that are very strong about it,
Matt. 5:28, Jesus said looking lustfull at a person (outside your marriage) is the same as adultery in God's eyes. So, even when you think about it is wrong in front of God, especially if you're doing it.
1 Cor. 6:9-10 "9Do you not know that the unrighteous and the wrongdoers will not inherit or have any share in the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived (misled): neither the impure and immoral, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor those who participate in homosexuality,
10Nor cheats (swindlers and thieves), nor greedy graspers, nor drunkards, nor foulmouthed revilers and slanderers, nor extortioners and robbers will inherit or have any share in the kingdom of God.
1 Corinthians 7:2-5
2But because of the temptation to impurity and to avoid immorality, let each [man] have his own wife and let each [woman] have her own husband.
3The husband should give to his wife her conjugal rights (goodwill, kindness, and what is due her as his wife), and likewise the wife to her husband.
4For the wife does not have [exclusive] authority and control over her own body, but the husband [has his rights]; likewise also the husband does not have [exclusive] authority and control over his body, but the wife [has her rights].
5Do not refuse and deprive and defraud each other [of your due marital rights], except perhaps by mutual consent for a time, so that you may devote yourselves unhindered to prayer. But afterwards resume marital relations, lest Satan tempt you [to sin] through your lack of restraint of sexual desire.(A)

Sex among consenting adults is normal and natural. A piece of legal paper does notmake it right or wrong.
Yes..it is true that most of our grandparents did not divorce..but that is because it was seen to be socially unacceptable. People stayed together even if they were miserable.

Pre marital sex is totally wrong, but if you don't marry, then it's not pre-MARITAL sex, so it's no problem.

I do not recall any direct quotes from Jesus about it but the book of Corinthians written by Paul is very negative about the act.

I can give you an example.
Couples that live together before marriage increase their chances of a later divorce by 50%.
Look at our divorce rate compared to our grand parents, yet we claim to be more enlightened than them.
They had it right.
Good Luck.
