Is money the root of all evil? If so, why do some people benefit and make a better life for themselves and others, while others lose so much (ie, divorce, out of control spending, law suits)?

Money is the root to evil (not all, as that is Satan's job) because more often than not, it caused people to become greedy, stingy, envious, unappreciative, prideful, and it usually lets one get so caught up into it or something the money buys that the persons life becomes consumed with it (sounds like idol worship, an idol doesn't have to be a statue, it is anything that consumes you that you forget God).

Let me allow you a brief correction. In the Bible, it says that the LOVE of money is the root of all evil. The LOVE of money.
People must use their spending habits wisely.
But the LOVE of money is the root of all evil. Not money. One person on here awhile back suggested getting rid of all evil (getting rid of money.)

Money is not the root of all evil. Money is just a simplified way of paying for things rather than trading something of equal value.
The "root of all evil" you're talking about is the desire for more - greed. More specifically, materialism - attachment to belongings and the desire for more and the drive to do anything to obtain more.

I don´t think money is the root off all evil , money is just paper, the purposes for using it, are what make the difference you can make a hospital, or traffic drugs the money is the same but the use of it it´s completely differen´t.

Love of money is the root of all evil not just money!
Money can be used for good, to help the less fortunate that kind of thing. If you love money than that is where all sorts of sin start to show their ugly faces.

The LOVE of money is the root of all evil. If one loves money, they worship it and material things. Money is mans invention. It has become necessary to have money on earth to live and exist. However, the money will not help in the eternal world. God provides what we need and desire if we follow him. Satan uses money and other things to decieve and bribe people to follow him. No greed and money have always moved society forward. That is why capitalism works. It gets you to work hard to get to a goal and that is good.
Some people are excessively greedy and that leads to them doing evil or stupid things (divorce, out of control spending).
