According to tradition, the wedding ring is worn on the left ring finger because the vein in the left ring finger, referred to as the vena amoris was believed to be directly connected to the heart, a symbol of love. The tradition of selecting the third finger started after the BC era.

The left ring finger is closer to the heart. It is believed by some to have a vein that is connected to the heart. This is why when driving and someone cuts you off you you give them the finger with your left hand. The left middle finger has a vein called the Veineus Asseholeus that is connected directly to the rectum.

Well my mother told me that their is a vein in the ring finger on the left hand that runs directly to the heart. That is why you should always wear your wedding band first, then the engagement ring. so your wedding band will be closest to your heart, therefore your husband band of eternity that he gives you will be closest to your heart!
