We did Care Bears! They have very cute items for a girl's first birthday with Care Bear stuff! It was all pink with flowers too. We had everything from tables clothes and the paper plates to center pieces, banners, and a high chair decor kit that all matched. It was adorable and we had a ton of compliments on it. Maybe.....Blue's Clues, Dora or something your daughter seems to like?

For my son's first birthday, we did Little People! It was so cute! I put Little People on the tables to play with and the kids took them home.

His second birthday the theme was Madagascar. Also cute, I found an adorable cake at Walmart

On Sunday, we celebrated his third birthday. We had a Build A Bear/Bob the Builder theme. After a month of searching, I found a delicious and cute cake at Basha (I live in AZ).

I don't think a "theme" is necessary for a one year old. She won't understand it and the general rule of thumb with very small children is to invite one guest per year of the child's age. So at age one, the party is really for the family of the child: mom, dad, siblings, grandparents, etc. Use pretty balloons and streamers to decorate -- the baby will notice them and be enchanted by the colors -- and get her her own small cake to dig into. When everyone else has a slice of the big cake, give your daughter the little individual cake and let her go for it! No fork required, just fingers. The pictures you take will be hilarious and sweet and you will all remember it for a long time.

At age 1, the theme is more for you then your daughter. Really, just balloons & cake are enough to impress her. Just remember to keep it simple and short so you don't overwhelm her!

For her 2nd birthday, she'll really notice the theme and love it, although even then, a simple party is a lot more fun for her.

arts and crafts for the theme. ones that lil kids can do. for my sons party we made puppets and made the birthday hats. we went to a craft shop and they have neat cartoon characters and shapes to put on the hats (they are stickers, no glue req.) and bought styrofoam hats and the kids each took a hat and thier moms helped them stick on the shapes and cartoon characters. Paper bag puppets, and some more stuff be creative. Put on invite parents must stay. You know, to help thier kids with the arts and crafts. What will separate this party from other parties is that it's original. not the standard barney party. the kids and parents will remember and recognise how much hard work and effort you put into it. just make sure you buy age apporiate activities.

i did Care Bear as well...for my daughter. It was Love-A Lot bear so pink and flowers and hearts! It was so cute. I got a TON of stuff on ebay and it turned out pretty cheap...there was EVERYTHING...from decor, to favours, candles, a hat for her to wear...LOTS of stuff!!
I say do it up for the first birthday! I didn't even bother with a second bday and probably won't until a school age bday. The first is memorable for you and yes, her!!
Good luck, happy celebration!

I wanted to do a costume party for my kids. it is something that most ppl will already have since it was halloween a couple months ago and it is fun and cute. Babies dont really care whether it is Dora or anything like that.
