No, some people really like them actually. Im not a huge fan just because I dont care for the little coloured fruit piece that dont taste very fruity and the really heavy heavy cake. Go ahead and try it - you may like it.

The commercial fruit cakes are not as good as the homemade ones because they must skimp on some ingredients and they aren't as fresh. They are edible, though.

I have a friend who collected nothing but fruit cake recipes. There are hundreds out there. Hers were published in a little cookbook in Douglas, Wyoming.

I have to admit I like a couple of them although I've never succeeded in actually making "The Best Rum Cake Ever". I've never gotten beyond assembling the ingredients and testing the rum..... and testing the rum..... and testing the rum..... (which is how the recipe is written)

I happen to like Christmas fruit cakes--the darker the better. And especially if they have been made the old fashioned way.

My Mom used to get me to make the fruit cakes at the beginning of December, using lots of candied fruit and nuts. (Her arthritis made it too painful for her to do this herself.) Then she would cook them in the oven at a very low heat with pans of water in the bottom of the oven, for hours. When they cooled, she would place them in cake tins that she had lined with waxed paper. And then over the next three weeks, she would pour either dark rum (about a cup at a time per cake) or brandy over the cakes, and cover them tightly and leave them to absorb the spirits. Then pour more on a few days later.

Needless to say, when she gave these cakes away as presents they were very appreciated.

Fruit cakes can be very good... and they can be not so great.

The fruit cakes I like the most are moist and have subdued flavors with not too much sugar.

If you eat fruit cake, try to find one with high-quality ingredients. Like any food, definitely try different ones before you give up on them, if you don't like the first one you taste.

I'm like the actual cake part, it's good, but I don't like all those colored fruit pieces. They just taste funny to me. I'm not big fan of the fruit cake.

We had a neighbor that gave us a fruit cake every year for Christmas and my mom would go on about how horrible they are and she would throw it out. I decided have a slice one year to see what all the negative hype was about....and YES it really is THAT bad.

No you can get the ones that have fresh fruit instead of the candied, and they are very good---but rich.It only takes a little slice.Oh wait---I like mine to be soaked in brandy--one slice and they cut me off..Try it they are really good.

I suppose its a matter of opinion but I have always hated it. It tastes like an old health muffin. My family loves it and eats it at every damn holiday.

It depends. The ones from Collin St. Bakery are good. Homemade ones are good.
